Preventing the Earth From Being Stricken With a Curse

Malakhi 4: 5-6 reads, "4:5Behold, I will send you Eliyah the prophet before the great and terrible day of Yahweh comes. 4:6He shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers; lest I come and strike the earth with a curse."

The Ground Stricken in the Days of Adam

Beresheet (Genesis) 3: 17-19 reads, "3:17To Adam he said, 'Because you have listened to your wife's voice, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, "You shall not eat of it," cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. 3:18Thorns also and thistles will it bring forth to you; and you will eat the herb of the field. 3:19By the sweat of your face will you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return."

It should therefore be clear that Yahweh did indeed curse the ground for Adam's sake. For Adam had both listened to the voice of his wife in a matter violating Yahweh's command, and also violated Yahweh's command in eating of the tree of which Yahweh commanded him not to eat.

The curse manifested itself in Adam having to toil for his sustenance all the days of his life. It manifested itself in the earth bringing forth thorns and thistles to Adam, in the place of much sustenance. It manifested itself in Adam needing to sweat of his face in order to have sustenance.

Eliyah Will Preach Against Sin

Seeing that Yahweh struck the ground, the earth, with a curse because of Adam's sin, it is evident that the Eliyah to come will preach against sin. That men may turn away from sin, that men may repent of their sin, lest they endure the effects of the curse Adam endured. And noting that Yahweh specifically mentioned Adam's sin of listening to the voice of his wife in a matter violating Yahweh's command, the Eliyah to come will indeed preach that men be the masters of their households, ruling over their households. He will preach that men not allow their wives to rule over them, especially in matters violating Yahweh's laws and commands.

The Original Eliyah Spoke Against Achav and His Wife Izevel

In this the experience of the original Eliyah comes to mind. For Eliyah spoke against the sins of Achav, whom his wife Izevel stirred up to sin greatly against Yahweh, such that Achav's sins exceeded those of his fathers. For under him, through Izevel ruling over him, the worship of Baal and Asherah multiplied greatly in the land of Yisrael. Also, through his wife ruling over him, several of Yahweh's laws were broken in the matter of Navot and his vineyard. For she caused Navot to be murdered under a false charge borne by false witnesses, thereby paving the way for the realisation of Achav's covetousness in seizing land which rightfully did not belong to him.

Eliyah also spoke out against Yehoram king of Yahudah, son of Yehoshafat, who married the daughter of Achav. For the daughter of Achav caused Yehoram to walk in the wickedness of the kings of Yisrael, rather than in the righteousness of his father Yehoshafat.

It should therefore be clear that the Eliyah to come will indeed restore order in the family, with the man as head over his household, and ruling over his wife, not allowing his wife to stir him up to violate Yahweh's laws and commands. And by the same token the Eliyah to come will indeed preach that wives be submissive to their husbands, heeding their husbands' word in all matters that Yahweh has given their husbands authority over them. The Eliyah to come will therefore indeed restore family order, with the husband as head of his household, and wives submissive to their husbands. And, by extension, he will also teach children to be submissive to their parents.

Kayin Murders His Brother Hevel and is Cursed for it

Beresheet 4: 10-12 reads, "4:10Yahweh said, 'What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to me from the ground. 4:11Now you are cursed because of the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. 4:12From now on, when you till the ground, it won't yield its strength to you. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth.'"

It should be clear that Yahweh imposed a curse on Kayin because of his murder of his brother Hevel. And the effect of the curse was that the ground would not yield to him its strength when he tilled it. He would therefore need to work harder and toil more than other men in order to derive the same yield from a piece of ground.

It should therefore be clear that curses come upon man because of man's sin.

Man's Prophesied Comfort

Beresheet 5: 28-31 reads, "5:28Lamekh lived one hundred eighty-two years, and became the father of a son, 5:29and he named him Noach, saying, 'This same will comfort us in our work and in the toil of our hands, because of the ground which Yahweh has cursed.' 5:30Lamekh lived after he became the father of Noach five hundred ninety-five years, and became the father of sons and daughters. 5:31All the days of Lamekh were seven hundred seventy-seven years, then he died."

It is again evident that the curse on the ground which Yahweh cursed involved man having to work hard and toil hard with his hand in order to have sustenance.

It should also be noted that Lamekh prophesied that Noach would indeed comfort men in their work and in the toil of their hands. In other words, through Noach, some comfort or alleviation of the work and toil would come about. Through Noach the curse on the ground would be removed!

It is therefore instructive to see what Noach did, and how his works alleviated man's work and toil, and removed the curse on the ground.
