Believe Yahweh's Word

Psalm 106 reads,

106:1Praise Yahweh!
Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good,
For his lovingkindness endures forever.

106:2Who can utter the mighty acts of Yahweh,
Or fully declare all his praise?

106:3Blessed are those who keep justice,
He who does righteousness at all times
.

106:4Remember me, Yahweh, with the favor that you show to your people.
Visit me with your salvation,

106:5That I may see the prosperity of your chosen,
That I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation,
That I may glory with your inheritance.

106:6We have sinned with our fathers.
We have committed iniquity.
We have done wickedly.

106:7Our fathers didn’t understand your wonders in Egypt.
They didn’t remember the multitude of your lovingkindnesses,
But were rebellious at the sea, even at the Red Sea.

106:8Nevertheless he saved them for his name’s sake,
That he might make his mighty power known
.

106:9He rebuked the Red Sea also, and it was dried up;
So he led them through the depths, as through a desert.

106:10He saved them from the hand of him who hated them,
And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

106:11The waters covered their adversaries.
There was not one of them left.

106:12Then they believed his words.
They sang his praise
.

106:13They soon forgot his works.
They didn’t wait for his counsel,
106:14But gave in to craving in the desert,
And tested God in the wasteland.

106:15He gave them their request,
But sent leanness into their soul.

106:16They envied Moses also in the camp,
And Aaron, Yahweh’s saint.

106:17The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
And covered the company of Abiram.

106:18A fire was kindled in their company.
The flame burned up the wicked.

106:19They made a calf in Horeb,
And worshiped a molten image.

106:20Thus they exchanged their glory
For an image of a bull that eats grass.

106:21They forgot God, their Savior,
Who had done great things in Egypt,
106:22Wondrous works in the land of Ham,
And awesome things by the Red Sea
.

106:23Therefore he said that he would destroy them,
Had Moses, his chosen, not stood before him in the breach,
To turn away his wrath, so that he wouldn’t destroy them.

106:24Yes, they despised the pleasant land.
They didn’t believe his word,
106:25But murmured in their tents,
And didn’t listen to the voice of Yahweh
.

106:26Therefore he swore to them
That he would overthrow them in the wilderness,
106:27That he would overthrow their seed among the nations,
And scatter them in the lands
.

106:28They joined themselves also to Baal-peor,
And ate the sacrifices of the dead.

106:29Thus they provoked him to anger with their deeds.
The plague broke in on them.

106:30Then Phinehas stood up, and executed judgment,
So the plague was stopped
.

106:31That was credited to him for righteousness,
To all generations forevermore
.

106:32They angered him also at the waters of Meribah,
So that Moses was troubled for their sakes;

106:33Because they were rebellious against his spirit,
He spoke rashly with his lips.

106:34They didn’t destroy the peoples,
As Yahweh commanded them,
106:35But mixed themselves with the nations,
Learned their works.

106:36They served their idols,
Which became a snare to them.

106:37Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.
106:38They shed innocent blood,
Even the blood of their sons and of their daughters,
Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan.
The land was polluted with blood.

106:39Thus were they defiled with their works,
And prostituted themselves in their deeds.

106:40Therefore the wrath of Yahweh was kindled against his people.
He abhorred his inheritance.

106:41He gave them into the hand of the nations.
Those who hated them ruled over them.

106:42Their enemies also oppressed them.
They were brought into subjection under their hand.

106:43Many times he delivered them,
But they were rebellious in their counsel,
And were brought low in their iniquity.

106:44Nevertheless he regarded their distress,
When he heard their cry.

106:45He remembered for them his covenant,
And repented according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.

106:46He made them also to be pitied
By all those who carried them captive.

106:47Save us, Yahweh, our God,
Gather us from among the nations,
To give thanks to your holy name,
To triumph in your praise
!

106:48Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel,
From everlasting even to everlasting!

Let all the people say, "Amen."

Praise Yah!

Call On Yahweh's Name

Psalm 116 reads,

116:1I love Yahweh, because he listens to my voice,
And my cries for mercy.

116:2Because he has turned his ear to me,
Therefore I will call on him as long as I live.

116:3The cords of death surrounded me,
The pains of Sheol got a hold on me.
I found trouble and sorrow.

116:4Then called I on the name of Yahweh:
"Yahweh, I beg you, deliver my soul
."

116:5Gracious is Yahweh, and righteous;
Yes, our God is merciful.

116:6Yahweh preserves the simple.
I was brought low, and he saved me
.

116:7Return to your rest, my soul,
For Yahweh has dealt bountifully with you.

116:8For you have delivered my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
And my feet from falling
.

116:9I will walk before Yahweh in the land of the living.

116:10I believed, therefore I said,
"I was greatly afflicted."

116:11I said in my haste,
"All men are liars."

116:12What will I give to Yahweh for all his benefits toward me?
116:13I will take the cup of salvation, and call on the name of Yahweh.

116:14I will pay my vows to Yahweh,
Yes, in the presence of all his people
.

116:15Precious in the sight of Yahweh is the death of his saints.

116:16Yahweh, truly I am your servant.
I am your servant, the son of your handmaid.
You have freed me from my chains.

116:17I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And will call on the name of Yahweh.

116:18I will pay my vows to Yahweh,
Yes, in the presence of all his people,

116:19In the courts of Yahweh’s house,
In the midst of you, Jerusalem.

Praise Yah!

Believe In Yahweh's Commandments

Psalm 119:65-72 reads,

119:65Do good to your servant,
According to your word, Yahweh.

119:66Teach me good judgment and knowledge,
For I believe in your commandments
.

119:67Before I was afflicted, I went astray;
But now I observe your word
.

119:68You are good, and do good.
Teach me your statutes.

119:69The proud have smeared a lie upon me.
With my whole heart, I will keep your precepts.

119:70Their heart is as callous as the fat,
But I delight in your law.

119:71It is good for me that I have been afflicted,
That I may learn your statutes
.

119:72The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver.

Believe Only Things Worthy Of Belief

Proverbs 14:15 reads,

14:15The simple believes everything,
But the prudent man carefully considers his ways.

It should therefore be evident that we should not believe everything, but believe only those things that are worthy of belief. And this entails careful consideration prior to so believing whatever it is that can be believed.

Be Wary Of Believing Malicious People

Proverbs 26:24-26 reads,

26:24A malicious man disguises himself with his lips,
But he harbors evil in his heart.

26:25When his speech is charming, don’t believe him;
For there are seven abominations in his heart
:

26:26His malice may be concealed by deception,
But his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.

How is the wickedness of a malicious man exposed in the assembly?

Those Who Do Not Believe Yahweh Are Not Established

Isaiah 7:1-9 reads,

7:1It happened in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it. 7:2It was told the house of David, saying, "Syria is allied with Ephraim." His heart trembled, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the forest tremble with the wind. 7:3Then Yahweh said to Isaiah, "Go forth now to meet Ahaz, you, and Shear-jashub your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, in the highway of the fuller’s field; 7:4and say to him, ‘Take heed, and be quiet; don’t be afraid, neither let your heart be faint, because of these two tails of smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria, and of the son of Remaliah. 7:5Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have purposed evil against you, saying, 7:6"Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set up a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeel;" 7:7thus says the Lord Yahweh, "It shall not stand, neither shall it happen." 7:8For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within sixty-five years shall Ephraim be broken in pieces, so that it shall not be a people: 7:9and the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established.’"

7:9 shows that for one to be established it is essential that one believes Yahweh's word, including his word through his prophets.

Believe In Yahweh's Precious Cornerstone

Isaiah 28:14-19 reads,

28:14Why hear the word of Yahweh, you scoffers, that rule this people that is in Jerusalem: 28:15Because you have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come to us; for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves: 28:16therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner -stone of sure foundation: he who believes shall not be in haste. 28:17I will make justice the line, and righteousness the plummet; and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding-place. 28:18Your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then you shall be trodden down by it. 28:19As often as it passes though, it shall take you; for morning by morning shall it pass through, by day and by night: and it shall be nothing but terror to understand the message.

28:16 shows that we ought to believe in Yahweh's foundation stone, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone of sure foundation. For those who believe in this stone shall not be in haste. This stone is his anointed one, Yah'shuah.

Only Yahweh Is Almighty

Isaiah 43:1-13 reads,

43:1But now thus says Yahweh who created you, Jacob, and he who formed you, Israel: Don’t be afraid, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name, you are mine. 43:2When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you: when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle on you. 43:3For I am Yahweh your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I have given Egypt as your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place. 43:4Since you have been precious in my sight, and honorable, and I have loved you; therefore will I give men in your place, and peoples instead of your life. 43:5Don’t be afraid; for I am with you: I will bring your seed from the east, and gather you from the west; 43:6I will tell the north, Give up; and to the south, Don’t keep back; bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the end of the earth; 43:7everyone who is called by my name, and whom I have created for my glory, whom I have formed, yes, whom I have made. 43:8Bring forth the blind people who have eyes, and the deaf who have ears. 43:9Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the peoples be assembled: who among them can declare this, and show us former things? Let them bring their witnesses, that they may be justified; or let them hear, and say, It is truth. 43:10You are my witnesses, says Yahweh, and my servant whom I have chosen; that you may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. 43:11I, even I, am Yahweh; and besides me there is no savior. 43:12I have declared, and I have saved, and I have shown; and there was no strange god among you: therefore you are my witnesses, says Yahweh, and I am God. 43:13Yes, since the day was I am he; and there is none who can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who can hinder it?

Why Yahweh Chose Israel As His Servant

43:10 shows that a reason why Yahweh chose Israel as his servant was for Israel to both know him and believe him. In other words, Israel was chosen for a purpose of being imparted knowledge about Yahweh. He was also chosen for a purpose of believing Yahweh, entailing being made aware of Yahweh's words.

Yahweh Is The Supreme Mighty One

Israel was to understand that Yahweh is the Supreme Mighty One, without a predecessor and without a successor. Yahweh is the one and only Supreme Mighty One.

Yahweh Is The Only Saviour

Israel is also to understand that Yahweh is the only Saviour. Yahweh is also the Most Powerful entity anywhere, for no one can deliver out of his hand, and no one can hinder his work.

These aspects of Yahweh's nature Israel should both know and believe. And it will be righteousness for Israel to so believe.

Believe The Revelation Of The Arm Of Yahweh

Isaiah 53 reads,

53:1Who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of Yahweh been revealed? 53:2For he grew up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he has no form nor comeliness; and when we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 53:3He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we didn’t respect him. 53:4Surely he has borne our infirmities, and carried our diseases; yet we esteemed him stricken, struck of God, and afflicted. 53:5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was on him; and with his stripes we are healed. 53:6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and Yahweh has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 53:7He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he didn’t open his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is mute, so he didn’t open his mouth. 53:8By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who among them considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living for the disobedience of my people to whom the stroke was due? 53:9They made his grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in his death; although he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. 53:10Yet it pleased Yahweh to bruise him; he has put him to grief: when you shall make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Yahweh shall prosper in his hand. 53:11He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by the knowledge of himself shall my righteous servant justify many; and he shall bear their iniquities. 53:12Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul to death, and was numbered with the transgressors: yet he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

The message that is to be believed concerns the revelation of the arm of Yahweh, Yahweh's servant. Aspects of this message are revealed in Isaiah 53, describing both the appearance of the arm of Yahweh, his experiences as a human being in the midst of Yahweh's people, and the reasons why Yahweh was pleased to have him undergo the experiences, especially sufferings, that he underwent. The arm of Yahweh, Yahweh's servant, is Yah'shuah.

Yahweh Exposes Malicious Ones Who Should Not Be Believed

Jeremiah 12:6 reads,

12:6For even your brothers, and the house of your father, even they have dealt treacherously with you; even they have cried aloud after you: don’t believe them, though they speak beautiful words to you.

Going by Proverbs 26:24-26, earlier seen, these brothers here were malicious. Also, it is evident that it is Yahweh who exposes those with malice in their hearts, exposing them in his assembly. For it is Yahweh who exposed the malicious and treacherous brothers on this occasion.

Don't Disbelieve Reports Prior To Verifying Them

Jeremiah 40:13-41:3 reads,

40:13Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, 40:14and said to him, Do you know that Baalis the king of the children of Ammon has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam didn’t believe them. 40:15Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Please let me go, and I will kill Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: why should he take your life, that all the Jews who are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant of Judah perish? 40:16But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, You shall not do this thing; for you speak falsely of Ishmael.

41:1Now it happened in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal and one of the chief officers of the king, and ten men with him, came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and there they ate bread together in Mizpah. 41:2Then arose Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men who were with him, and struck Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land. 41:3Ishmael also killed all the Jews who were with him, to wit, with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who were found there, the men of war.

Gedaliah's case shows that one ought to believe the truth and also not dismiss a report that may be true prior to its verification. For Gedaliah, by not believing the true report, and also not subsequently making due effort to verify its veracity, paid for his unbelief by losing his life! While Proverbs 14:15 suggests that one should not believe everything, it also states that a prudent person CAREFULLY considers his ways.

Therefore, whenever one comes to us with a report that is plausible, before we dismiss it we should check out its veracity. Once ascertained we can respond appropriately, believing it if it is true, or not believing it if it is false.

The People Of Nineveh Believed Yahweh

Jonah 3 reads,

3:1The word of Yahweh came to Jonah the second time, saying, 3:2"Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I give you."

3:3So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to the word of Yahweh. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days’ journey across. 3:4Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried out, and said, "Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!"

3:5The people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. 3:6The news reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. 3:7He made a proclamation and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, "Let neither man nor animal, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, nor drink water; 3:8but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and animal, and let them cry mightily to God. Yes, let them turn everyone from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands. 3:9Who knows whether God will not turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, so that we might not perish?"

3:10God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. God repented of the evil which he said he would do to them, and he didn’t do it.

Jehoshaphat's words recorded in 2 Chronicles 20:20 should be remembered,

believe in Yahweh your God, so shall you be established; believe his prophets, so shall you prosper.

The people of Nineveh believed both Yahweh and his words through his prophet Jonah. They repented of their sins as a result of their belief. Yahweh therefore changed his mind with respect to the calamity that he had thought to bring upon Nineveh.

It is therefore evident that a reason for believing Yahweh and his words through his prophets is for him to establish us and to prosper us. For when we act according to his word, showing our belief of those words, he duly establishes and prospers us.
