Yah'shuah Touched A Leper And Healed Him

Matthew 8:1-4 reads,

8:1When he came down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. 8:2Behold, a leper came to him and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean."

8:3Jesus stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I want to. Be made clean." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 8:4Jesus said to him, "See that you tell nobody, but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

In stretching out his hand and touching the leper what did Yah'shuah transmit to the leper? Seeing that the leper was cleansed of his leprosy, and seeing that Yah'shuah was clean, it appears that Yah'shuah transmitted to the leper cleanliness in the context of leprosy, thereby healing the leper. It therefore appears that good health is one of the attributes that can be transmitted by the laying on of hands at Yahweh's command.

Mark 1:40-45 reads,

1:40There came to him a leper, begging him, kneeling down to him, and saying to him, "If you want to, you can make me clean."

1:41Being moved with compassion, he stretched out his hand, and touched him, and said to him, "I want to. Be made clean." 1:42When he had said this, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean. 1:43He strictly charged him, and immediately sent him out, 1:44and said to him, "See you say nothing to anybody, but go show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony to them."

1:45But he went out, and began to proclaim it much, and to spread about the matter, so that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was outside in desert places: and they came to him from everywhere.

Luke 5:12-16 reads,

5:12It happened, while he was in one of the cities, behold, there was a man full of leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell on his face, and begged him, saying, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean."

5:13He stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I want to. Be made clean."

Immediately the leprosy departed from him. 5:14He charged him to "Tell no one, But go your way, and show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing according to what Moses commanded, for a testimony to them." 5:15But the report concerning him spread much more, and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities. 5:16But he withdrew himself into the desert, and prayed.

Yah'shuah Touched The Hand Of Peter's Mother And Healed Her

Matthew 8:14-15 reads,

8:14When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother lying sick of a fever. 8:15He touched her hand, and the fever left her. She got up and served him.

With respect to healing the sick is it sufficient for the healing servant to just touch the sick person in any part of the sick person's body, without necessarily placing his hands on the head of the sick person?

Mark 1:30-31 reads,

1:30Now Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. 1:31He came and took her by the hand, and raised her up. The fever left her, and she served them.

Yah'shuah Touched The Hand Of Jairus' Daughter And Raised Her To Life

Matthew 9:18-19 reads,

9:18While he told these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped him, saying, "My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live."

9:19Jesus got up and followed him, as did his disciples.

The ruler whose daughter had just died understood and believed that Yah'shuah had power to lay hands on the sick, and even the dead, for them to be healed. It therefore appears that Yah'shuah typically healed the sick by laying his hands on them.

Matthew 9:23-26 reads,

9:23When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players, and the crowd in noisy disorder, 9:24he said to them, "Make room, because the young lady isn’t dead, but sleeping."

They were ridiculing him. 9:25But when the crowd was put out, he entered in, took her by the hand, and the young lady arose. 9:26The report of this went out into all that land.

Yah'shuah did not necessarily heal by laying his hand or hands on the head of the sick. For, on more than one occasion it is recorded that he simply touched the hand of the sick person, and the sick person was healed.

Mark 5:22-23 reads,

5:22Behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, came; and seeing him, he fell at his feet, 5:23and begged him much, saying, "My little daughter is at the point of death. Please come and lay your hands on her, that she may be made healthy, and live."

Mark 5:35-43 reads,

5:35While he was still speaking, they came from the synagogue ruler’s house saying, "Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher any more?"

5:36But Jesus, not heeding the word spoken, immediately said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Don’t be afraid, only believe." 5:37He allowed no one to follow him, except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. 5:38He came to the synagogue ruler’s house, and he saw an uproar, weeping, and great wailing. 5:39When he had entered in, he said to them, "Why do you make an uproar and weep? The child is not dead, but is asleep."

5:40They laughed him to scorn. But he, having put them all out, took the father of the child and her mother and those who were with him, and went in where the child was lying. 5:41Taking the child by the hand, he said to her, "Talitha cumi;" which means, being interpreted, "Young lady, I tell you, get up." 5:42Immediately the young lady rose up, and walked, for she was twelve years old. They were amazed with great amazement. 5:43He charged them much that no one should know this, and commanded that something should be given to her to eat.

Luke 8:49-56 reads,

8:49While he still spoke, one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house came, saying to him, "Your daughter is dead. Don’t trouble the Teacher."

8:50But Jesus hearing it, answered him, "Don’t be afraid. Only believe, and she will be healed."

8:51When he came to the house, he didn’t allow anyone to enter in, except Peter, John, James, the father of the girl, and her mother. 8:52All were weeping and mourning her, but he said, "Don’t weep. She isn’t dead, but sleeping."

8:53They laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. 8:54But he put them all outside, and taking her by the hand, he called, saying, "Little girl, arise!" 8:55Her spirit returned, and she rose up immediately. He commanded that something be given to her to eat. 8:56Her parents were amazed, but he charged them to tell no one what had been done.

Yah'shuah Blessed Little Children When Laying His Hands On Them

Matthew 19:13-15 reads,

19:13Then little children were brought to him, that he should lay his hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. 19:14But Jesus said, "Allow the little children, and don’t forbid them to come to me; for to such belongs the Kingdom of Heaven." 19:15He laid his hands on them, and departed from there.

It appears that the little children were brought to Yah'shuah that he may bless them. And those who so brought the children understood that Yah'shuah had Yahweh's power to so bless the little children by laying his hands on them, even as Jacob blessed Joseph's children by laying his hands on them.

Mark 10:13-16 reads,

10:13They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the disciples rebuked those who were bringing them. 10:14But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said to them, "Allow the little children to come to me! Don’t forbid them, for to such belong the kingdom of God. 10:15Most assuredly I tell you, whoever will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child, he will in no way enter therein." 10:16He took them in his arms, and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

Yah'shuah Sometimes Healed Without Laying His Hands On The Sick

Mark 3:1-5 reads,

3:1He entered again into the synagogue, and there was a man there who had his hand withered. 3:2They watched him, whether he would heal him on the Sabbath day, that they might accuse him. 3:3He said to the man who had his hand withered, "Stand up." 3:4He said to them, "Is it lawful on the Sabbath day to do good, or to do harm? To save a life, or to kill?" But they were silent. 3:5When he had looked around at them with anger, being grieved at the hardening of their hearts, he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was restored as healthy as the other.

It should be noted that Yah'shuah did not always touch those whom he healed, sometimes simply issuing the command and the sick person was healed. It therefore appears that laying hands on a sick person is not strictly necessary for that person to be healed.

Laying On Of Hands Not Strictly Necessary To Perform Yahweh's Work

Drawing on the same principle it appears that laying on hands on another is not strictly necessary for the performance of the task at hand. For the task can be performed with or without the laying on of hands.

As this is so, why then does Yahweh sometimes command his servants to lay hands on another person for the performance of a thing?

Yah'shuah Laid His Hands On Some Sick People In His Own Country

Mark 6:4-6 reads,

6:4Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house." 6:5He could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick folk, and healed them. 6:6He marveled because of their unbelief.

He went around the villages teaching.

Yah'shuah Sighed When Healing A Deaf And Mute Person

Mark 7:32-37 reads,

7:32They brought to him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech. They begged him to lay his hand on him. 7:33He took him aside from the multitude, privately, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat, and touched his tongue. 7:34Looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, "Ephphatha!" that is, "Be opened!" 7:35Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke clearly. 7:36He charged them that they should tell no one, but the more he charged them, so much the more widely they proclaimed it. 7:37They were astonished beyond measure, saying, "He has done all things well. He makes even the deaf hear, and the mute speak!"

Why did Yah'shuah sigh? Was he sighing in relief that he request had been heard? Was he sighing in relief that healing the deaf and mute person had not been easy, and was therefore relieved that the struggle to provide the man with his hearing and speech had been overcome?

Yah'shuah TWICE Laid His Hands On A Blind Man In Healing Him

Mark 8:22-26 reads,

8:22He came to Bethsaida. They brought a blind man to him, and begged him to touch him. 8:23He took hold of the blind man by the hand, and brought him out of the village. When he had spit on his eyes, and laid his hands on him, he asked him if he saw anything.

8:24He looked up, and said, "I see men; for I see them like trees walking."

8:25Then again he laid his hands on his eyes. He looked intently, and was restored, and saw everyone clearly. 8:26He sent him away to his house, saying, "Don’t enter into the village, nor tell anyone in the village."

Why did Yah'shuah ask the blind man if he saw anything after he had laid hands on him? Why did Yah'shuah lay his hands TWICE on the blind man before he saw everyone clearly? Was it the case that healing this blind man had not been an easy task, thereby requiring the laying on of his hands upon the man twice before his sight was fully given to him?

Yah'shuah Cast Out A Deaf And Mute Spirit

Mark 9:17-29 reads,

9:17One of the multitude answered, "Teacher, I brought to you my son, who has a mute spirit; 9:18and wherever it seizes him, it dashes him down, and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth, and wastes away. I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they weren’t able."

9:19He answered him, "Unbelieving generation, how long will I be with you? How long will I bear with you? Bring him to me."

9:20They brought him to him, and when he saw him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground, wallowing and foaming at the mouth.

9:21He asked his father, "How long has it been since this has come to him?"

He said, "From childhood. 9:22Often it has cast him both into the fire and into the water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us, and help us."

9:23Jesus said to him, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes."

9:24Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, "I believe. Help my unbelief!"

9:25When Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, "You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and enter no more into him!"

9:26Having cried out, and convulsed greatly, it came out of him. The boy became like one dead; so much that most of them said, "He is dead." 9:27But Jesus took him by the hand, and raised him up; and he arose.

9:28When he had come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn’t we cast it out?" 9:29He said to them, "This kind can come out by nothing, except by prayer and fasting."

Some Types Of Healing Require Greater Healing Power

9:28-29 shows that there are particular forms of healing that require resources greater than that ordinarily required for lesser forms of healing. Such as in the case whereby a person is mute and deaf, because the person is possessed by a mute and deaf spirit.

It therefore appears that in the cases mentioned above whereby Yah'shuah sighed upon healing a deaf and mute person (Mark 7:32-37), and also twice laid his hands upon a blind man before his sight was clearly given to him (Mark 8:22-26), that there were spirits difficult to remove that were responsible for those conditions in those people.

Yah'shuah Prophesied That His Believers Would Heal The Sick By Laying Hands On Them

Mark 16:14-18 reads,

16:14Afterward he was revealed to the eleven themselves as they sat at the table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they didn’t believe those who had seen him after he had risen. 16:15He said to them, "Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation. 16:16He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who disbelieves will be condemned. 16:17These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new languages; 16:18they will take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will in no way hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

Yah'shuah Healed The Sick By Laying His Hands On Them

Luke 4:40-41 reads,

4:40When the sun was setting, all those who had any sick with various diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them. 4:41Demons also came out from many, crying out, and saying, "You are the Christ, the Son of God!" Rebuking them, he didn’t allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.

Yah'shuah Cast Out A Spirit Of Infirmity By Laying Hands On The Woman It Bound

Luke 13:10-17 reads,

13:10He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath day. 13:11Behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and she was bent over, and could in no way straighten herself up. 13:12When Jesus saw her, he called her, and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your infirmity." 13:13He laid his hands on her, and immediately she stood up straight, and glorified God.

13:14The ruler of the synagogue, being moved with indignation because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the multitude, "There are six days in which men ought to work. Therefore come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day!"

13:15Therefore the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Doesn’t each one of you free his ox or his donkey from the stall on the Sabbath, and lead him away to water? 13:16Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound eighteen long years, be freed from this bondage on the Sabbath day?"

13:17As he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame, and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

Evil Spirits Are Responsible For Some Illnesses

Yah'shuah here shows us that there are cases of illnesses that are caused by spirits, such as a spirit of infirmity. And these spirits act on Satan's authority, binding human beings with their own attributes. Therefore one who heals such ill people must indeed have power and authority over such spirits, in order to command them the leave those whom they bind with their attributes.

It should also be noted that Yah'shuah laid his hands on a woman possessed by a spirit, that the spirit depart from her and her health be restored. It is therefore in order for one who has an evil spirit to have hands laid upon him by an authorised servant of Yahweh.

The Apostles Appointed Some Brethren To Service By Laying Hands On Them

Acts 6:1-6 reads,

6:1Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a grumbling of the Grecian Jews against the Hebrews because their widows were neglected in the daily service. 6:2The twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, "It is not appropriate for us to forsake the word of God and serve tables. 6:3Therefore select from among you, brothers, seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. 6:4But we will continue steadfastly in prayer and in the ministry of the word."

6:5These words pleased the whole multitude. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch; 6:6whom they set before the apostles. When they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

It appears that the laying on of hands upon the seven brethren prior to their induction into their service of tables was similar to that of the Levites prior to their induction into their service in the Tent of Meeting. The apostles, those who laid hands of these seven, were the ones with the responsibility for all that took place over the company of the brethren. The seven therefore served in the stead of the apostles, this particular aspect of the apostles' service having been delegated to them. In other words, just as the Levites assisted the priests in their service in the Tent of Meeting, so also these who served at tables assisted the apostles in their service to the brethren.

New Believers Received The Holy Spirit When Apostles' Hands Were Laid On Them

Acts 8:14-19 reads,

8:14Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, 8:15who, when they had come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit; 8:16for as yet he had fallen on none of them. They had only been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. 8:17Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. 8:18Now when Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, 8:19saying, "Give me also this power, that whoever I lay my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit."

It should be noted that the laying on a believer's hands over another person that the other person may receive the Holy Spirit should be accompanied by prayer to the effect that the other person may receive the Holy Spirit.

Not All Believers Have Power And Authority To Facilitate Receipt Of The Holy Spirit Through Laying On Of Hands

It should also be noted that not all believers have been given the power to transmit the Holy Spirit through the laying on of their hands. For this is shown by the account in Acts 8:5-13, which reads,

8:5Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and proclaimed to them the Christ. 8:6The multitudes listened with one accord to the things that were spoken by Philip, when they heard and saw the signs which he did. 8:7For unclean spirits came out of many of those who had them. They came out, crying with a loud voice. Many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed. 8:8There was great joy in that city.

8:9But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who had used sorcery in the city before, and amazed the people of Samaria, making himself out to be some great one, 8:10to whom they all listened, from the least to the greatest, saying, "This man is that great power of God." 8:11They listened to him, because for a long time he had amazed them with his sorceries. 8:12But when they believed Philip preaching good news concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 8:13Simon himself also believed. Being baptized, he continued with Philip. Seeing signs and great miracles done, he was amazed.

Philip Did Not Have Power To Lay Hands On New Believers For Their Receiving The Holy Spirit

It is evident that Philip had power and authority to perform signs and great miracles, including removing unclean spirits from those who had them and healing the sick. He also preached the good news of the kingdom of Yahweh and the name of Yah'shuah the Christ, and baptised those who believed the word he preached. Nevertheless, despite Philip preaching the word, and having power and authority to perform signs and great miracles, he DID NOT have the power and authority to transmit the Holy Spirit to those who believed in Yah'shuah through the laying on of his hands. In other words, though he had the power and authority to lay hands on others that unclean spirits come out of them and they be healed, he did not have the power and authority to lay hands on new believers that they may receive the Holy Spirit.

Only Those Yahweh Empower Can Transmit His Holy Spirit Through Laying On Of Hands

It should therefore be evident that the power and authority to lay hands on a new believer that he receives the Holy Spirit is not one that is possessed by all believers. It was not even possessed by Philip, despite his being an evangelist who faithfully preached the word and had power and authority to heal the sick and cast out unclean spirits. Therefore only those whom Yahweh has specifically given the power to transmit his Holy Spirit through they laying on of their hands can indeed so transmit the Holy Spirit to new believers. And as seen in Acts 8, the apostles Peter and John indeed had this power and authority, and they used it in transmitting the Holy Spirit to new believers in Samaria.

Yah'shuah Empowered Ananias To Lay Hands On Saul

Acts 9:10-18 reads,

9:10Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, "Ananias!"

He said, "Behold, it’s me, Lord."

9:11The Lord said to him, "Arise, and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus. For behold, he is praying, 9:12and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in, and laying his hands on him, that he might receive his sight."

9:13But Ananias answered, "Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he did to your saints at Jerusalem. 9:14Here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name."

9:15But the Lord said to him, "Go your way, for he is my chosen vessel to bear my name before the nations and kings, and the children of Israel. 9:16For I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name’s sake."

9:17Ananias departed, and entered into the house. Laying his hands on him, he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord, who appeared to you in the way which you came, has sent me, that you may receive your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit." 9:18Immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he received his sight. He arose and was baptized.

It should be noted that Yah'shuah gave Ananias authority to lay hands on Saul not only for the purpose of Saul receiving his sight, but also for the purpose of Saul being filled with the Holy Spirit.

Power To Lay Hands On A New Believer For Receipt Of The Holy Spirit Is Not Given Exclusively To Apostles

It should also be noted that Ananias is not listed as an apostle, but as a disciple. It is therefore evident that the power and authority to lay hands on a new believer that the new believer receive the Holy Spirit is not one that is given exclusively to apostles. Yah'shuah gives this gift to any disciple that he chooses to give it to, irrespective of whatever other gift he gives to him.

The Holy Spirit Authorised Prophets And Teachers At Antioch To Lay Hands On Barnabas And Saul

Acts 13:1-3 reads,

13:1Now in the assembly that was at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen the foster-brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 13:2As they served the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Separate Barnabas and Saul for me, for the work to which I have called them."

13:3Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

It should be noted that the Holy Spirit authorised the prophets and teachers at Antioch to lay their hands on Barnabas and Saul to set them for the service that he had called them to. Therefore, when the Holy Spirit authorises that a person be inducted to a particular service, that person should have hands laid upon him by those the Holy Spirit has so authorised.

Paul Had Power To Lay Hands On New Believers For Their Receipt Of The Holy Spirit

Acts 19:1-6 reads,

19:1It happened that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed through the upper country, came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples. 19:2He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?"

They said to him, "No, we haven't even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

19:3He said, "Into what then were you baptized?"

They said, "Into John’s baptism."

19:4Paul said, "John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, on Jesus."

19:5When they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. 19:6When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke with other languages, and prophesied.

Paul was also given the power and authority to lay his hands on new believers that the new believers receive the Holy Spirit. And he used this power and authority to facilitate new believers receiving the Holy Spirit.

Those Without Authority Should Not Purport To Do Works They Have Not Been Authorised To Do

Acts 19:11-17 reads,

19:11God worked special miracles by the hands of Paul, 19:12so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were carried away from his body to the sick, and the evil spirits went out. 19:13But some of the itinerant Jews, exorcists, took on themselves to name over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, "We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches." 19:14There were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did this.

19:15The evil spirit answered, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know, but who are you?" 19:16The man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. 19:17This became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who lived at Ephesus. Fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

This account is a WARNING to all who appropriate unto themselves power and authority to perform miracles and cast out evil spirits yet Yahweh had not so given them this power and authority. For evil spirits only recognise duly given power and authority, and do not recognise misappropriated power and authority.

It therefore appears that those who are to lay hands on others for particular purposes should be only those who have been authorised and empowered by Yahweh to so lay hands for those given purposes. Therefore a person who has not been authorised and empowered to lay hands that a sick person be healed should not do so. A person who has not been authorised and empowered to lay hands that another person possessed by an unclean spirit be dispossessed of it should not do so. A person who has not been authorised and empowered to lay hands on a new believer that the new believer receives the Holy Spirit should not do so.

Paul Had Power To Lay Hands For The Healing Of The Sick

Acts 28:7-9 reads,

28:7Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief man of the island, named Publius, who received us, and courteously entertained us three days. 28:8It was so, that the father of Publius lay sick of fever and dysentery. Paul entered in to him, prayed, and laying his hands on him, healed him. 28:9Then when this was done, the rest also that had diseases in the island came, and were cured.
