YAHWEH'S COVENANTS WITH YISRAEL
Promises Under The Sinaitic Covenant
Shemot 19: 1-6
19:1
In the third month after the children of Yisra'el had gone forth out of the land of Mitzrayim, on that same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. 19:2When they had departed from Refidim, and had come to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness; and there Yisra'el encamped before the mount. 19:3Moshe went up to The Mighty One, and Yahweh called to him out of the mountain, saying, "This is what you shall tell the house of Ya`akov, and tell the children of Yisra'el: 19:4'You have seen what I did to the Mitzrim, and how I bore you on eagles' wings, and brought you to myself. 19:5Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice, and keep my covenant, then you shall be my own possession from among all peoples; for all the earth is mine; 19:6and you shall be to me a kingdom of Kohanim, and a holy nation.' These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Yisra'el."The covenant Yahweh was proposing to enter into with the children of Yisrael, the house of Yaakov, was to result in the children of Yisrael becoming Yahweh's own possession among all the peoples of the earth. They would also become a kingdom of Kohanim and a holy nation, if they kept his covenant and obeyed his voice.
Kohanim In The House Of Yaakov Prior To The Sinaitic Covenant
Shemot 19: 24
19:24
Yahweh said to him, "Go down and you shall bring Aharon up with you, but don't let the Kohanim and the people break through to come up to Yahweh, lest he break forth on them."It should be noted that among the house of Yaakov there were Kohanim. Nevertheless, just because some of them were Kohanim did not make the entire house a kingdom of Kohanim and a holy nation! It is therefore possible that Kohanim can exist among a people even when that people are not a kingdom of Kohanim and a holy nation, even as Yisrael was prior to entering the covenant that it did with Yahweh!
The Record Of The Sinaitic Covenant
Shemot 20: 1 to 24: 12
20:1
The Mighty One, Aleph Tav, spoke all these words, saying, 20:2"I am Yahweh your Mighty One, who brought you out of the land of Mitzrayim, out of the house of bondage. 20:3You shall have no other mighty ones before me.20:4
"You shall not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 20:5you shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, Yahweh your Mighty One, am a jealous Mighty One, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me, 20:6and showing lovingkindness to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.20:7
"You shall not take the name of Yahweh your Mighty One in vain, for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.20:8
"Remember the Shabbat day, to keep it holy. 20:9You shall labor six days, and do all your work, 20:10but the seventh day is a Shabbat to Yahweh your Mighty One. You shall not do any work in it, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your man-servant, nor your maid-servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates; 20:11for in six days Yahweh made Heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore Yahweh blessed the Shabbat day, and made it holy.20:12
"Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your Mighty One gives you.20:13
"You shall not murder.20:14
"You shall not commit adultery.20:15
"You shall not steal.20:16
"You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.20:17
"You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's."20:18
All the people perceived the thunderings, the lightnings, the sound of the shofar, and the mountain smoking. When the people saw it, they trembled, and stayed at a distance. 20:19They said to Moshe, "Speak with us yourself, and we will listen; but don't let The Mighty One speak with us, lest we die."20:20
Moshe said to the people, "Don't be afraid, for The Mighty One has come to test you, and that his fear may be before you, that you won't sin." 20:21The people stayed at a distance, and Moshe drew near to the thick darkness where The Mighty One was.20:22
Yahweh said to Moshe, "This is what you shall tell the children of Yisra'el: 'You yourselves have seen that I have talked with you from Heaven. 20:23You shall most certainly not make alongside of me mighty ones of silver, or mighty ones of gold for yourselves. 20:24You shall make an altar of earth for me, and shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace-offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I record my name I will come to you and I will bless you. 20:25If you make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of hewn stones; for if you lift up your tool on it, you will have polluted it. 20:26Neither shall you go up by steps to my altar, that your nakedness may not be exposed to it.'21:1
"Now these are the ordinances which you shall set before them.21:2
If you buy a Hebrew servant, he shall serve six years and in the seventh he shall go out free without paying anything. 21:3If he comes in by himself, he shall go out by himself. If he is married, then his wife shall go out with him. 21:4If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself. 21:5But if the servant shall plainly say, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children. I will not go out free;' 21:6then his master shall bring him to The Mighty One, and shall bring him to the door or to the door-post, and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall serve him for ever.21:7
"If a man sells his daughter to be a maid-servant, she shall not go out as the men-servants do. 21:8If she doesn't please her master, who has married her to himself, then he shall let her be redeemed. He shall have no right to sell her to a foreign people, seeing he has dealt deceitfully with her. 21:9If he marries her to his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters. 21:10If he takes another wife to himself, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, and her marital rights. 21:11If he doesn't do these three things for her, she may go free without paying any money.21:12
"One who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death, 21:13but not if it is unintentional, and The Mighty One allows it to happen: then I will appoint you a place where he shall flee. 21:14If a man schemes and comes presumptuously on his neighbor to kill him, you shall take him from my altar, that he may die.21:15
"Anyone who attacks his father or his mother shall be surely put to death.21:16
"Anyone who kidnaps someone and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.21:17
"Anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.21:18
"If men quarrel and one strikes the other with a stone, or with his fist, and he doesn't die, but is confined to bed; 21:19if he rises again and walks around with his staff, then he who struck him shall be cleared: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall provide for his healing until he is thoroughly healed.21:20
"If a man strikes his servant or his maid with a rod, and he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished. 21:21Notwithstanding, if he gets up after a day or two, he shall not be punished, for he is his property.21:22
"If men fight and hurt a pregnant woman so that she gives birth prematurely, and yet no harm follows, he shall be surely fined as much as the woman's husband demands and the judges allow. 21:23But if any harm follows, then you must take life for life, 21:24eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 21:25burning for burning, wound for wound, and bruise for bruise.21:26
"If a man strikes his servant's eye, or his maid's eye, and destroys it, he shall let him go free for his eye's sake. 21:27If he strikes out his man-servant's tooth, or his maid-servant's tooth, he shall let him go free for his tooth's sake.21:28
"If a bull gores a man or a woman to death, the bull shall surely be stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the bull shall not be held responsible. 21:29But if the bull had a habit of goring in the past, and it has been testified to its owner, and he has not kept it in, but it has killed a man or a woman, the bull shall be stoned, and its owner shall also be put to death. 21:30If a ransom is laid on him, then he shall give for the redemption of his life whatever is laid on him. 21:31Whether it has gored a son or has gored a daughter, according to this judgment it shall be done to him. 21:32If the bull gores a man-servant or a maid-servant, thirty shekels of silver shall be given to their master, and the ox shall be stoned.21:33
"If a man opens a pit, or if a man digs a pit and doesn't cover it, and a bull or a donkey falls into it, 21:34the owner of the pit shall make it good. He shall give money to its owner, and the dead animal shall be his.21:35
"If one man's bull injures another's, so that it dies, then they shall sell the live bull, and divide its price; and they shall also divide the dead animal. 21:36Or if it is known that the bull was in the habit of goring in the past, and its owner has not kept it in, he shall surely pay bull for bull, and the dead animal shall be his own.22:1
"If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and kills it, or sells it; he shall pay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep. 22:2If the thief is found breaking in, and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no guilt of bloodshed for him. 22:3If the sun has risen on him, there shall be guilt of bloodshed for him; he shall make restitution. If he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft. 22:4If the stolen property is found in his hand alive, whether it is ox, donkey, or sheep, he shall pay double.22:5
"If a man causes a field or vineyard to be eaten, and lets his animal loose, and it grazes in another man's field, he shall make restitution from the best of his own field, and from the best of his own vineyard.22:6
"If fire breaks out, and catches in thorns so that the shocks of grain, or the standing grain, or the field are consumed; he who kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.22:7
"If a man delivers to his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it is stolen out of the man's house; if the thief is found, he shall pay double. 22:8If the thief isn't found, then the master of the house shall come near to The Mighty One, to find out if he hasn't put his hand to his neighbor's goods. 22:9For every matter of trespass, whether it be for ox, for donkey, for sheep, for clothing, or for any kind of lost thing, whereof one says, 'This is mine,' the cause of both parties shall come before The Mighty One. He whom The Mighty One condemns shall pay double to his neighbor.22:10
"If a man delivers to his neighbor a donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any animal to keep, and it dies or is injured, or driven away, no man seeing it; 22:11the oath of Yahweh shall be between them both, whether he hasn't put his hand to his neighbor's goods; and the owner of it shall accept it, and he shall not make restitution. 22:12But if it is stolen from him, he shall make restitution to the owner of it. 22:13If it is torn in pieces, let him bring it for evidence. He shall not make good that which was torn.22:14
"If a man borrows anything of his neighbor's, and it is injured, or dies, the owner of it not being with it, he shall surely make restitution. 22:15If the owner of it is with it, he shall not make it good. If it is a leased thing, it came for its lease.22:16
"If a man entices a virgin who isn't pledged to be married, and lies with her, he shall surely pay a dowry for her to be his wife. 22:17If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.22:18
"You shall not allow a sorceress to live.22:19
"Whoever has sex with an animal shall surely be put to death.22:20
"He who sacrifices to any mighty one, except to Yahweh only, shall be utterly destroyed.22:21
"You shall not wrong an alien, neither shall you oppress him, for you were aliens in the land of Mitzrayim.22:22
"You shall not take advantage of any widow or fatherless child. 22:23If you take advantage of them at all, and they cry at all to me, I will surely hear their cry; 22:24and my wrath will grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.22:25
"If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be to him as a creditor; neither shall you charge him interest. 22:26If you take your neighbor's garment as collateral, you shall restore it to him before the sun goes down, 22:27for that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin. What would he sleep in? It will happen, when he cries to me, that I will hear, for I am gracious.22:28
"You shall not blaspheme The Mighty One, nor curse a ruler of your people.22:29
"You shall not delay to offer from your harvest and from the outflow of your presses."You shall give the firstborn of your sons to me. 22:30You shall do likewise with your oxen and with your sheep. Seven days it shall be with its mother, then on the eighth day you shall give it to me.
22:31
"You shall be holy men to me, therefore you shall not eat any flesh that is torn by animals in the field. You shall cast it to the dogs.23:1
"You shall not spread a false report. Don't join your hand with the wicked to be a malicious witness. 23:2You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; neither shall you testify in court to side with a multitude to pervert justice; 23:3neither shall you favor a poor man in his cause.23:4
"If you meet your enemy's ox or his donkey going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again. 23:5If you see the donkey of him who hates you fallen down under his burden, don't leave him, you shall surely help him with it.23:6
"You shall not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits.23:7
"Keep far from a false charge, and don't kill the innocent and righteous: for I will not justify the wicked.23:8
You shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds those who have sight and perverts the words of the righteous.23:9
"You shall not oppress an alien, for you know the heart of an alien, seeing you were aliens in the land of Mitzrayim.23:10
"For six years you shall sow your land, and shall gather in its increase, 23:11but the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, that the poor of your people may eat; and what they leave the animal of the field shall eat. In like manner you shall deal with your vineyard and with your olive grove.23:12
"Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may have rest, and the son of your handmaid, and the alien may be refreshed.23:13
"Be careful to do all things that I have said to you; and don't invoke the name of other mighty ones, neither let them be heard out of your mouth.23:14
"You shall observe a feast to me three times a year. 23:15You shall observe the feast of matzah. Seven days you shall eat matzah, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month Aviv (for in it you came out from Mitzrayim), and no one shall appear before me empty. 23:16And the feast of ingathering, the first-fruits of your labors, which you sow in the field: and the feast of harvest, at the end of the year, when you gather in your labors out of the field. 23:17Three times in the year all your males shall appear before the Sovereign Yahweh.23:18
"You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread, neither shall the fat of my feast remain all night until the morning. 23:19The first of the first-fruits of your ground you shall bring into the house of Yahweh your Mighty One."You shall not boil a kid in its mother's milk.
23:20
"Behold, I send an angel before you, to keep you by the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. 23:21Pay attention to him, and listen to his voice. Don't provoke him, for he will not pardon your disobedience, for my name is in him. 23:22But if you indeed listen to his voice, and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and an adversary to your adversaries. 23:23For my angel shall go before you, and bring you in to the Amori, the Chittite, the Perizzi, the Kana`ani, the Chivvi, and the Yevusi; and I will cut them off. 23:24You shall not bow down to their mighty ones, nor serve them, nor follow their practices, but you shall utterly overthrow them and demolish their pillars. 23:25You shall serve Yahweh your Mighty One, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from your midst. 23:26No one will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will fulfill the number of your days. 23:27I will send my terror before you, and will confuse all the people to whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. 23:28I will send the hornet before you, which will drive out the Chivvi, the Kana`ani, and the Chittite, from before you. 23:29I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate, and the animals of the field multiply against you. 23:30Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and inherit the land. 23:31I will set your border from the Sea of Suf even to the sea of the Pelishtim, and from the wilderness to the River; for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you. 23:32You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their mighty ones. 23:33They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me, for if you serve their mighty ones, it will surely be a snare to you."24:1
He said to Moshe, "Come up to Yahweh, you, and Aharon, Nadav, and Avihu, and seventy of the Zakenim of Yisra'el; and worship from a distance. 24:2Moshe alone shall come near to Yahweh, but they shall not come near, neither shall the people go up with him."24:3
Moshe came and told the people all the words of Yahweh, and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, and said, "All the words which Yahweh has spoken will we do."24:4
Moshe wrote all the words of Yahweh, and rose up early in the morning, and built an altar under the mountain, and twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Yisra'el. 24:5He sent young men of the children of Yisra'el, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace-offerings of oxen to Yahweh. 24:6Moshe took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 24:7He took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, "All that Yahweh has spoken will we do, and be obedient."24:8
Moshe took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, "Look, this is the blood of the covenant, which Yahweh has made with you concerning all these words."24:9
Then Moshe, Aharon, Nadav, Avihu, and seventy of the Zakenim of Yisra'el went up. 24:10They saw The Mighty One of Yisra'el. Under his feet was like a paved work of sappir stone, like the skies for clearness. 24:11He didn't lay his hand on the nobles of the children of Yisra'el. They saw The Mighty One, and ate and drank.24:12
Yahweh said to Moshe, "Come up to me on the mountain, and stay here, and I will give you the tables of stone with the law and the commands that I have written, that you may teach them."The record of the covenant Yahweh entered into with the house of Yaakov. If they kept this covenant and obeyed Yahweh's voice they would become Yahweh's own possession among all the peoples of the earth. They would also become a kingdom of Kohanim and a holy nation.
Shemot 24: 7
24:7
He took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, "All that Yahweh has spoken will we do, and be obedient."Moshe wrote the words that Yahweh spoke to the house of Yaakov in a book - the book of the covenant!
Ratification Of The Sinaitic Covenant
Shemot 24: 8
24:8
Moshe took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, "Look, this is the blood of the covenant, which Yahweh has made with you concerning all these words."The covenant Yahweh entered into with the children of Yisrael was ratified with blood, the blood of oxen. Half of the blood was sprinkled on the altar, and the other half on the people.
The Perpetual Covenant Of The Shabbat
Shemot 31: 12-17
31:12
Yahweh spoke to Moshe, saying, 31:13"Speak also to the children of Yisra'el, saying, 'Most assuredly you shall keep my Shabbatot: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that you may know that I am Yahweh who sanctifies you. 31:14You shall keep the Shabbat therefore; for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. 31:15Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day is a Shabbat of solemn rest, holy to Yahweh. Whoever does any work on the Shabbat day shall surely be put to death. 31:16Therefore the children of Yisra'el shall keep the Shabbat, to observe the Shabbat throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. 31:17It is a sign between me and the children of Yisra'el forever; for in six days Yahweh made Heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.'"The covenant between Yahweh and the children of Yisrael throughout their generations that they may know that Yahweh sanctifies them - sets them apart for a holy purpose. The covenant between Yahweh and the children of Yisrael forever that commemorates that in six days Yahweh made Heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
Therefore, as long as the generations of the children of Yisrael remain, they are to observe Yahweh's Shabbatot.
Also, seeing that Yisrael was already holy at the time Yahweh made this perpetual Shabbat covenant, it is clear that Yahweh had already fulfilled his part of the Sinaitic covenant. In which he was to make the children of Yisrael his own possession among the peoples of the earth, and a kingdom of Kohanim and a holy nation. Therefore, at this time that the perpetual Shabbat covenant was entered into, the children of Yisrael were already a kingdom of Kohanim and a holy nation, Yahweh's own possession among the peoples of the earth!
Land Provision In The Sinaitic Covenant
Shemot 34: 10-11
34:10
He said, "Behold, I make a covenant: before all your people I will do marvels, such as have not been worked in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among which you are shall see the work of Yahweh; for it is an awesome thing that I do with you. 34:11Observe that which I command you this day. Behold, I drive out before you the Amori, the Kana`ani, the Chittite, the Perizzi, the Chivvi, and the Yevusi.Yahweh's covenant stated to Moshe involved Yahweh driving out the inhabitants of the land that he was giving the children of Yisrael, and the children of Yisrael seeing his driving out of those peoples out of that land.
The Ten Commandments Summarise The Sinaitic Covenant
Shemot 34: 27-28
34:27
Yahweh said to Moshe, "Write you these words: for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Yisra'el."34:28
He was there with Yahweh forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread, nor drank water. He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments. The covenant that Yahweh made with Moshe and with all the children of Yisrael included all the words that Yahweh had spoken to Moshe during the forty days and forty nights that Moshe was up in the mountain with Yahweh.
The ten commandments are also clearly distinguished from all the other words that Yahweh spoke to Moshe, and are also called "the words of the covenant"! It therefore appears that the ten commandments are the summation of all the words of the covenant!
Vayikra (Leviticus) 2: 11-13
2:11
No meal-offering, which you shall offer to Yahweh, shall be made with yeast; for you shall burn no yeast, nor any honey, as an offering made by fire to Yahweh. 2:12As an offering of first-fruits you shall offer them to Yahweh: but they shall not come up for a sweet savor on the altar. 2:13Every offering of your meal-offering shall you season with salt; neither shall you allow the salt of the covenant of your Mighty One to be lacking from your meal-offering: with all your offerings you shall offer salt. All meal offerings to Yahweh must be seasoned with salt.
The Everlasting Covenant Of The Bread Of Memorial
Vayikra 24: 1-9
24:1
Yahweh spoke to Moshe, saying, 24:2"Command the children of Yisra'el, that they bring to you pure olive oil beaten for the light, to cause a lamp to burn continually. 24:3Outside of the veil of the testimony, in the tent of meeting, shall Aharon keep it in order from evening to morning before Yahweh continually: it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations. 24:4He shall keep in order the lamps on the pure lampstand before Yahweh continually. 24:5You shall take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes of it: two tenth parts of an efah shall be in one cake. 24:6You shall set them in two rows, six on a row, on the pure table before Yahweh. 24:7You shall put pure frankincense on each row, that it may be to the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire to Yahweh. 24:8Every Shabbat day he shall set it in order before Yahweh continually; it is on the behalf of the children of Yisra'el, an everlasting covenant. 24:9It shall be for Aharon and his sons; and they shall eat it in a holy place: for it is most holy to him of the offerings of Yahweh made by fire by a perpetual statute."Sinaitic Covenant Conditional On Yisrael's Faithfulness
Vayikra 26: 1-46
26:1
"You shall make you no idols, neither shall you rear you up an engraved image, or a pillar, neither shall you place any figured stone in your land, to bow down to it: for I am Yahweh your Mighty One. 26:2You shall keep my Shabbatot, and reverence my sanctuary: I am Yahweh. 26:3If you walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them; 26:4then I will give your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. 26:5Your threshing shall reach to the vintage, and the vintage shall reach to the sowing time; and you shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely. 26:6I will give shalom in the land, and you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will cause evil animals to cease out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land. 26:7You shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword. 26:8Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall chase ten thousand; and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword. 26:9I will have respect to you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and will establish my covenant with you. 26:10You shall eat old store long kept, and you shall bring forth the old because of the new. 26:11I will set my tent among you: and my soul won't abhor you. 26:12I will walk among you, and will be your Mighty One, and you shall be my people. 26:13I am Yahweh your Mighty One, who brought you forth out of the land of Mitzrayim, that you should not be their bondservants; and I have broken the bars of your yoke, and made you go upright.26:14
"But if you will not listen to me, and will not do all these commandments; 26:15and if you shall reject my statutes, and if your soul abhors my ordinances, so that you will not do all my commandments, but break my covenant; 26:16I also will do this to you: I will appoint terror over you, even consumption and fever, that shall consume the eyes, and make the soul to pine away; and you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. 26:17I will set my face against you, and you shall be struck before your enemies: those who hate you shall rule over you; and you shall flee when none pursues you.26:18
"If you will not yet for these things listen to me, then I will chastise you seven times more for your sins. 26:19I will break the pride of your power: and I will make your sky as iron, and your earth as brass; 26:20and your strength shall be spent in vain; for your land shall not yield its increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruit.26:21
"If you walk contrary to me, and won't listen to me, I will bring seven times more plagues on you according to your sins. 26:22I will send the animal of the field among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your ways shall become desolate.26:23
"If by these things you won't be reformed to me, but will walk contrary to me; 26:24then will I also walk contrary to you; and I will strike you, even I, seven times for your sins. 26:25I will bring a sword on you, that shall execute the vengeance of the covenant; and you shall be gathered together within your cities: and I will send the pestilence among you; and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy. 26:26When I break your staff of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver your bread again by weight: and you shall eat, and not be satisfied.26:27
"If you won't for all this listen to me, but walk contrary to me; 26:28then I will walk contrary to you in wrath; and I also will chastise you seven times for your sins. 26:29You shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall you eat. 26:30I will destroy your high places, and cut down your sun-images, and cast your dead bodies on the bodies of your idols; and my soul shall abhor you. 26:31I will make your cities a waste, and will bring your sanctuaries to desolation, and I won't smell the savor of your sweet odors. 26:32I will bring the land into desolation; and your enemies that dwell therein shall be astonished at it. 26:33You will I scatter among the nations, and I will draw out the sword after you: and your land shall be a desolation, and your cities shall be a waste. 26:34Then shall the land enjoy its Shabbatot, as long as it lies desolate, and you are in your enemies' land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy its Shabbatot. 26:35As long as it lies desolate it shall have rest, even the rest which it didn't have in your Shabbatot, when you lived on it.26:36
"As for those who are left of you, I will send a faintness into their heart in the lands of their enemies: and the sound of a driven leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as one flees from the sword; and they shall fall when none pursues. 26:37They shall stumble one on another, as it were before the sword, when none pursues: and you shall have no power to stand before your enemies. 26:38You shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up. 26:39Those who are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies' lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.26:40
"They shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass which they trespassed against me, and also that, because they walked contrary to me, 26:41I also walked contrary to them, and brought them into the land of their enemies: if then their uncircumcised heart be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity; 26:42then will I remember my covenant with Ya`akov; and also my covenant with Yitzchak, and also my covenant with Avraham will I remember; and I will remember the land. 26:43The land also shall be left by them, and shall enjoy its Shabbatot, while it lies desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity; because, even because they rejected my ordinances, and their soul abhorred my statutes.26:44
"Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them; for I am Yahweh their Mighty One; 26:45but I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Mitzrayim in the sight of the nations, that I might be their Mighty One: I am Yahweh." 26:46These are the statutes and ordinances and laws, which Yahweh made between him and the children of Yisra'el in mount Sinai by Moshe.26: 9 shows that if Yisrael was to heed Yahweh's words Yahweh would establish his covenant with them. His covenant whereby they were to be his own possession among all the peoples of the earth, and to be a kingdom of Kohanim and a holy nation.
Seeing that Shemot 31 already indicated that the children of Yisrael were already Yahweh's own possession among the peoples of the earth, and also a kingdom of Kohanim and a holy nation, it appears that the effect of the children of Yisrael so being would become manifest as they heeded Yahweh's words.
26: 15 appears to be talking about the same covenant Yahweh made with the house of Yaakov at mount Sinai.
26: 25 shows that if the children were to break the covenant they had entered into with Yahweh, Yahweh was to execute his vengeance against them.
Prophecy Of Yisrael's Unfaithfulness And Subsequent Repentance
26: 39-42 shows that a time was to come when the remnant of the children of Yisrael was to acknowledge both their iniquity and that of their ancestors. When they were to do so Yahweh was to remember the covenant that he made with their ancestors Yaakov, Yitzchak and Avraham, the everlasting covenant to give them the land of Kanaan for a possession. In other words, upon their repentance and confession of their sin, they would indeed be returned to their own land.
Prophecy Of Yahweh's Faithfulness To The Sinaitic Covenant
26: 43-45 shows that even though the children of Yisrael were to break their covenant with Yahweh, Yahweh was not to break his covenant with them. In other words, provided the children of Yisrael were to obey his voice and keep his covenant, he was going to fulfil to them what he had undertaken to fulfil to them as part of that covenant. And that was to make them his own possession out of all the peoples of the earth, and to make them a kingdom of Kohanim and a holy nation. In other words, at the time the children of Yisrael were to repent of their iniquities and those of their fathers, while in the land of their enemies, Yahweh would then make them his own possession, and make them a kingdom of Kohanim and a holy nation. For Yahweh was not to break his covenant with them!
Avrahamic Covenant Co-Exists With The Sinaitic Covenant
It should also be noted that the covenant Yahweh made with Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov exists together with the covenant Yahweh made with their children at mount Sinai, though these two covenants are wholly separate from one another and require Yahweh to fulfil different things in them. It should also be remembered that the covenant Yahweh made with Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov was an EVERLASTING covenant. It should also be noted that even though the mount Sinai covenant was not described as an everlasting covenant at the time it was entered into, the fact that Yahweh subsequently stated that he would not break it, even though he prophesied that Yisrael would indeed break their side of it, shows that it was indeed to remain in application despite its repeated violation by Yisrael! And it definitely was to be in application at the time that the remnant of the children of Yisrael were to be in the lands of their enemies, at the time they were to repent, prior to their being returned back to their own land, to facilitate the fulfilment of the covenant Yahweh made with their fathers, with Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov.
Bamidbar (Numbers) 18: 18-19
18:18
The flesh of them shall be yours, as the wave-breast and as the right thigh, it shall be yours. 18:19All the heave-offerings of the holy things, which the children of Yisra'el offer to Yahweh, have I given you, and your sons and your daughters with you, as a portion forever: it is a covenant of salt forever before Yahweh to you and to your seed with you.Yahweh's Covenant Of An Everlasting Priesthood To Pinechas
Bamidbar 25: 1-17
25:1
Yisra'el abode in Shittim; and the people began to play the prostitute with the daughters of Mo'av: 25:2for they called the people to the sacrifices of their mighty ones; and the people ate, and bowed down to their mighty ones. 25:3Yisra'el joined himself to Ba`al-Pe`or: and the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Yisra'el. 25:4Yahweh said to Moshe, "Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up to Yahweh before the sun, that the fierce anger of Yahweh may turn away from Yisra'el." 25:5Moshe said to the judges of Yisra'el, "Kill you everyone his men who have joined themselves to Ba`al-Pe`or."25:6
Behold, one of the children of Yisra'el came and brought to his brothers a Midyanite woman in the sight of Moshe, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Yisra'el, while they were weeping at the door of the tent of meeting. 25:7When Pinechas, the son of El`azar, the son of Aharon the Kohen, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the congregation, and took a spear in his hand; 25:8and he went after the man of Yisra'el into the pavilion, and thrust both of them through, the man of Yisra'el, and the woman through her body. So the plague was stayed from the children of Yisra'el. 25:9Those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.25:10
Yahweh spoke to Moshe, saying, 25:11"Pinechas, the son of El`azar, the son of Aharon the Kohen, has turned my wrath away from the children of Yisra'el, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I didn't consume the children of Yisra'el in my jealousy. 25:12Therefore say, Behold, I give to him my covenant of shalom: 25:13and it shall be to him, and to his seed after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was jealous for his Mighty One, and made atonement for the children of Yisra'el." 25:14Now the name of the man of Yisra'el that was slain, who was slain with the Midyanite woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a fathers' house among the Shim`oni. 25:15The name of the Midyanite woman who was slain was Kozbi, the daughter of Tzur; he was head of the people of a father's house in Midyan. 25:16Yahweh spoke to Moshe, saying, 25:17"Vex the Midyanim, and strike them; 25:18for they vexed you with their wiles, wherewith they have deceived you in the matter of Pe`or, and in the matter of Kozbi, the daughter of the prince of Midyan, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Pe`or."25: 10-13 shows that Yahweh gave to Pinechas and to his seed after him a covenant of shalom, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood!
The Ten Commandments - Yahweh's Covenant With Yisrael
Devarim (Deuteronomy) 4: 13
4:13
He declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even the ten commandments; and he wrote them on two tables of stone.Yahweh To Punish Yisrael For Their Unfaithfulness To The Sinaitic Covenant
Devarim 4: 23-38
4:23
Take heed to yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of Yahweh your Mighty One, which he made with you, and make you an engraved image in the form of anything which Yahweh your Mighty One has forbidden you. 4:24For Yahweh your Mighty One is a devouring fire, a jealous Mighty One. 4:25When you shall father children, and children's children, and you shall have been long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make an engraved image in the form of anything, and shall do that which is evil in the sight of Yahweh your Mighty One, to provoke him to anger; 4:26I call Heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that you shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto you go over the Yarden to possess it; you shall not prolong your days on it, but shall utterly be destroyed. 4:27Yahweh will scatter you among the peoples, and you shall be left few in number among the nations, where Yahweh shall lead you away. 4:28There you shall serve mighty ones, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell. 4:29But from there you shall seek Yahweh your Mighty One, and you shall find him, when you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul. 4:30When you are in oppression, and all these things are come on you, in the latter days you shall return to Yahweh your Mighty One, and listen to his voice: 4:31for Yahweh your Mighty One is a merciful Mighty One; he will not fail you, neither destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which he swore to them.4:32
For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that the Mighty One created man on the earth, and from the one end of the sky to the other, whether there has been any such thing as this great thing is, or has been heard like it? 4:33Did ever a people hear the voice of the Mighty One speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and live? 4:34Or has the Mighty One tried to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that Yahweh your Mighty One did for you in Mitzrayim before your eyes? 4:35To you it was showed, that you might know that Yahweh he is the Mighty One; there is none else besides him. 4:36Out of Heaven he made you to hear his voice, that he might instruct you: and on earth he made you to see his great fire; and you heard his words out of the midst of the fire. 4:37Because he loved your fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought you out with his presence, with his great power, out of Mitzrayim; 4:38to drive out nations from before you greater and mightier than you, to bring you in, to give you their land for an inheritance, as at this day.Moshe's words indicated clearly to Yisrael that if they did not keep Yahweh's covenant they would indeed face appropriate consequences from Yahweh's hand. Moshe's words are therefore seen to be in harmony with those of Yahweh in Vayikra 26.
Moshe prophesied that the children of Yisrael were to be errant children, be subsequently scattered among the nations, continue to remain errant whilst in the lands of the nations, and then repent of their errors in the latter days. In those latter days they were to listen to Yahweh's voice and return to him. For Yahweh, being merciful, would not fail them nor destroy them, but would leave them a remnant and remember the covenant he swore to their fathers.
4: 32-33 indicates that the covenant Moshe was speaking of was that which Yahweh uttered in the hearing of their fathers out of the midst of the fire, the Sinaitic covenant! In other words, it appears that Moshe was telling the children of Yisrael that Yahweh would remember the Sinaitic covenant in the latter days, while the remnant of the children of Yisrael would be scattered among the nations! Implying that the Sinaitic covenant would continue to remain applicable in the latter days, while the remnant of the children of Yisrael were to be scattered in the lands of the nations.
Sinaitic Covenant Wholly Separate From The Avrahamic Covenant
Devarim 5: 1-22
5:1
Moshe called to all Yisra'el, and said to them, 'Hear, Yisra'el, the statutes and the ordinances which I speak in your ears this day, that you may learn them, and observe to do them. 5:2Yahweh our Mighty One made a covenant with us in Chorev. 5:3Yahweh didn't make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day. 5:4Yahweh spoke with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire, 5:5(I stood between Yahweh and you at that time, to show you the word of Yahweh: for you were afraid because of the fire, and didn't go up into the mount;) saying, 5:6"I am Yahweh your Mighty One, who brought you out of the land of Mitzrayim, out of the house of bondage. 5:7You shall have no other mighty ones before me.5:8
"You shall not make an engraved image for yourself, nor any likeness of anything that is in Heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5:9you shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them; for I, Yahweh, your Mighty One, am a jealous Mighty One, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me; 5:10and showing lovingkindness to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.5:11
"You shall not take the name of Yahweh your Mighty One in vain: for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.5:12
"Observe the Shabbat day, to keep it holy, as Yahweh your Mighty One commanded you. 5:13Six days shall you labor, and do all your work; 5:14but the seventh day is a Shabbat to Yahweh your Mighty One: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your man-servant, nor your maid-servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates; that your man-servant and your maid-servant may rest as well as you. 5:15You shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Mitzrayim, and Yahweh your Mighty One brought you out of there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm: therefore Yahweh your Mighty One commanded you to keep the Shabbat day.5:16
"Honor your father and your mother, as Yahweh your Mighty One commanded you; that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you, in the land which Yahweh your Mighty One gives you.5:17
"You shall not murder.5:18
"Neither shall you commit adultery.5:19
"Neither shall you steal.5:20
"Neither shall you give false testimony against your neighbor.5:21
"Neither shall you covet your neighbor's wife; neither shall you desire your neighbor's house, his field, or his man-servant, or his maid-servant, his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's."5:22
These words Yahweh spoke to all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. He wrote them on two tables of stone, and gave them to me.'The Sinaitic (Chorev) covenant was made with the children of Yaakov and not with Yaakov, Yitzchak and Avraham. It is a covenant wholly separate from the everlasting covenant Yahweh made with Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov.
Why Yahweh Entered Into The Sinaitic Covenant With Yisrael
Devarim 7: 6-10
7:6
For you are a holy people to Yahweh your Mighty One: Yahweh your Mighty One has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth. 7:7Yahweh didn't set his love on you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all peoples: 7:8but because Yahweh loves you, and because he would keep the oath which he swore to your fathers, has Yahweh brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Par`oh king of Mitzrayim. 7:9Know therefore that Yahweh your Mighty One, he is the Mighty One, the faithful Mighty One, who keeps covenant and lovingkindness with them who love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations, 7:10and repays those who hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him who hates him, he will repay him to his face.Moshe confirmed that the children of Yisrael were indeed a holy people to Yahweh their Mighty One. Yahweh their Mighty One chose them to be a people for his own possession, above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. This he did to keep the oath he swore to their fathers, to Avraham, to Yitzchak and to Yaakov, to give them the land of Kanaan for an everlasting possession.
Yahweh keeps his covenants, even to a thousand generations! He also repays to their face those who hate him and do not heed his words.
Why Yahweh Gave Yisrael Power To Get Wealth
Devarim 8: 11-20
8:11
Beware lest you forget Yahweh your Mighty One, in not keeping his commandments, and his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command you this day: 8:12lest, when you have eaten and are full, and have built goodly houses, and lived therein; 8:13and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; 8:14then your heart be lifted up, and you forget Yahweh your Mighty One, who brought you forth out of the land of Mitzrayim, out of the house of bondage; 8:15who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty ground where was no water; who brought you forth water out of the rock of flint; 8:16who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers didn't know; that he might humble you, and that he might prove you, to do you good at your latter end: 8:17and lest you say in your heart, "My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth." 8:18But you shall remember Yahweh your Mighty One, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth; that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as at this day. 8:19It shall be, if you shall forget Yahweh your Mighty One, and walk after other mighty ones, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish. 8:20As the nations that Yahweh makes to perish before you, so shall you perish; because you wouldn't listen to the voice of Yahweh your Mighty One.Yahweh gave Yisrael power to get wealth in fulfilment of his covenant with their fathers! In other words, to fulfil his covenant with their fathers, it was necessary that he give them power to get wealth!
The Covenant In The Land Of Moav
Devarim 29: 1 to 30: 20
29:1
These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh commanded Moshe to make with the children of Yisra'el in the land of Mo'av, besides the covenant which he made with them in Chorev.29:2
Moshe called to all Yisra'el, and said to them, "You have seen all that Yahweh did before your eyes in the land of Mitzrayim to Par`oh, and to all his servants, and to all his land; 29:3the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders: 29:4but Yahweh has not given you a heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day. 29:5I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes have not grown old on you, and your shoe has not grown old on your foot. 29:6You have not eaten bread, neither have you drunk wine or strong drink; that you may know that I am Yahweh your Mighty One. 29:7When you came to this place, Sichon the king of Cheshbon, and `Og the king of Bashan, came out against us to battle, and we struck them: 29:8and we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Re'uveni, and to the Gadi, and to the half-tribe of the Manashshi. 29:9Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.29:10
You stand this day all of you before Yahweh your Mighty One; your heads, your tribes, your Zakenim, and your officers, even all the men of Yisra'el, 29:11your little ones, your wives, and your sojourner who is in the midst of your camps, from the one who cuts your wood to the one who draws your water; 29:12that you may enter into the covenant of Yahweh your Mighty One, and into his oath, which Yahweh your Mighty One makes with you this day; 29:13that he may establish you this day to himself for a people, and that he may be to you a Mighty One, as he spoke to you, and as he swore to your fathers, to Avraham, to Yitzchak, and to Ya`akov.29:14
Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath, 29:15but with him who stands here with us this day before Yahweh our Mighty One, and also with him who is not here with us this day 29:16(for you know how we lived in the land of Mitzrayim, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which you passed; 29:17and you have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them); 29:18lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away this day from Yahweh our Mighty One, to go to serve the mighty ones of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood; 29:19and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have shalom, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to destroy the moist with the dry. 29:20Yahweh will not pardon him, but then the anger of Yahweh and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book shall lie on him, and Yahweh will blot out his name from under the sky. 29:21Yahweh will set him apart to evil out of all the tribes of Yisra'el, according to all the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law.29:22
The generation to come, your children who shall rise up after you, and the foreigner who shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses wherewith Yahweh has made it sick; 29:23and that the whole land of it is sulfur, and salt, and a burning, that it is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows therein, like the overthrow of Sedom and `Amorah, Admah and Tzevoyim, which Yahweh overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath: 29:24even all the nations shall say, 'Why has Yahweh done thus to this land? What means the heat of this great anger?' 29:25Then men shall say, 'Because they forsook the covenant of Yahweh, the Mighty One of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Mitzrayim, 29:26and went and served other mighty ones, and worshipped them, mighty ones that they didn't know, and that he had not given to them: 29:27therefore the anger of Yahweh was kindled against this land, to bring on it all the curse that is written in this book; 29:28and Yahweh rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as at this day.'29:29
"The secret things belong to Yahweh our Mighty One; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.30:1
"It shall happen, when all these things are come on you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you shall call them to mind among all the nations, where Yahweh your Mighty One has driven you, 30:2and shall return to Yahweh your Mighty One, and shall obey his voice according to all that I command you this day, you and your children, with all your heart, and with all your soul; 30:3that then Yahweh your Mighty One will turn your captivity, and have compassion on you, and will return and gather you from all the peoples, where Yahweh your Mighty One has scattered you. 30:4If any of your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of the heavens, from there will Yahweh your Mighty One gather you, and from there will he bring you back: 30:5and Yahweh your Mighty One will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it; and he will do you good, and multiply you above your fathers.30:6
"Yahweh your Mighty One will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your seed, to love Yahweh your Mighty One with all your heart, and with all your soul, that you may live. 30:7Yahweh your Mighty One will put all these curses on your enemies, and on those who hate you, who persecuted you. 30:8You shall return and obey the voice of Yahweh, and do all his commandments which I command you this day. 30:9Yahweh your Mighty One will make you plenteous in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of your ground, for good: for Yahweh will again rejoice over you for good, as he rejoiced over your fathers; 30:10if you shall obey the voice of Yahweh your Mighty One, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law; if you turn to Yahweh your Mighty One with all your heart, and with all your soul.30:11
"For this commandment which I command you this day, it is not too hard for you, neither is it far off. 30:12It is not in Heaven, that you should say, 'Who shall go up for us to Heaven, and bring it to us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?' 30:13Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, 'Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it to us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?' 30:14But the word is very near to you, in your mouth, and in your heart, that you may do it.30:15
"Behold, I have set before you this day life and good, and death and evil; 30:16in that I command you this day to love Yahweh your Mighty One, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his ordinances, that you may live and multiply, and that Yahweh your Mighty One may bless you in the land where you go in to possess it. 30:17But if your heart turn away, and you will not hear, but shall be drawn away, and worship other mighty ones, and serve them; 30:18I denounce to you this day, that you shall surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land, where you pass over the Yarden to go in to possess it. 30:19I call Heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse: therefore choose life, that you may live, you and your seed; 30:20to love Yahweh your Mighty One, to obey his voice, and to cleave to him; for he is your life, and the length of your days; that you may dwell in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Avraham, to Yitzchak, and to Ya`akov, to give them."29: 1 shows that the covenant in the land of Moav was wholly separate from the covenant at Chorev.
29: 9 promises prosperity to the children of Yisrael in all that they do if they keep the covenant in the land of Moav.
The covenant in the land of Moav reaffirmed the covenant at Chorev.
Moshe, speaking Yahweh's words, prophesied that the children of Yisrael would indeed rebel against Yahweh's covenant at Chorev and be punished for it, both they and their land. Yahweh would drive them out of their land and scatter them among ALL THE NATIONS!
Nevertheless, they would indeed repent of their rebellion when in the land of their captivity, scattered among all the nations. They would seek Yahweh and Yahweh would gather them and return them back to their own land.
Moshe Prophesied Circumcision Of Yisraelites' Hearts
30: 6 shows that at that time Yahweh their Mighty One would circumcise their hearts, and the heart of their seed, to love Yahweh their Mighty One with all their heart and with all their soul, that they may live.
The Commandments Of Moshe To Remain Applicable At The Time Of The Restoration Of Yisrael To Their Own Land
30: 8 shows that the remnant children of Yisrael would return to their own land and do the commandments that Yahweh commandment them by Moshe! Thus showing that the commandments of Moshe would continue to remain applicable even at the time the remnant children of Yisrael were to return to their own land, after their captivity in all the nations of the earth.
The Commandments Of Yahweh By Moshe To Be Kept By Those With Circumcised Hearts
And these commandments of Yahweh by Moshe's mouth they would do when Yahweh would circumcise their hearts! Implying that Yahweh's commandments by Moshe are to be done by all the children of Yisrael, even those with circumcised hearts! It is therefore NOT the case that those Yisraelites with circumcised hearts are not to do Yahweh's commands by Moshe. Rather, by their hearts having been circumcised, they are indeed to do all of Yahweh's words by Moshe, for they will then indeed love Yahweh their Mighty One with all their hearts and all their soul!
It should therefore be clear that Yahweh's words by Moshe were to continue to remain applicable to the children of Yisrael even up to and after their return from their captivity among all the nations of the earth!
Yahweh Predicted Yisrael's Unfaithfulness
Devarim 31: 15-21
31:15
Yahweh appeared in the Tent in a pillar of cloud: and the pillar of cloud stood over the door of the Tent. 31:16Yahweh said to Moshe, "Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers; and this people will rise up, and play the prostitute after the strange mighty ones of the land, where they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them. 31:17Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall come on them; so that they will say in that day, 'Haven't these evils come on us because our Mighty One is not among us?' 31:18I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evil which they shall have worked, in that they are turned to other mighty ones. 31:19Now therefore write you this song for you, and teach you it the children of Yisra'el: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Yisra'el. 31:20For when I shall have brought them into the land which I swore to their fathers, flowing with milk and honey, and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and grown fat; then will they turn to other mighty ones, and serve them, and despise me, and break my covenant. 31:21It shall happen, when many evils and troubles are come on them, that this song shall testify before them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they frame this day, before I have brought them into the land which I swore."Yahweh predicted that the children of Yisrael would indeed break his covenant and would suffer for it!
The Song Moshe Sang To Yisrael
Devarim 32
32:1
Give ear, you heavens, and I will speak;Let the earth hear the words of my mouth.
32:2
My doctrine shall drop as the rain;My speech shall condense as the dew,
As the small rain on the tender grass,
As the showers on the herb.
32:3
For I will proclaim the name of Yahweh:Ascribe you greatness to our Mighty One.
32:4
The Rock, his work is perfect; For all his ways are justice:
A Mighty One of faithfulness and without iniquity,
Just and right is he.
32:5
They have dealt corruptly with him, they are not his children, it is their blemish; They are a perverse and crooked generation.
32:6
Do you thus requite Yahweh,Foolish people and unwise?
Isn't he your father who has bought you?
He has made you, and established you.
32:7
Remember the days of old,Consider the years of many generations:
Ask your father, and he will show you;
Your Zakenim, and they will tell you.
32:8
When HaElyon gave to the nations their inheritance,When he separated the children of men,
He set the bounds of the peoples
According to the number of the children of Yisra'el.
32:9
For Yahweh's portion is his people;Ya`akov is the lot of his inheritance.
32:10
He found him in a desert land,In the waste howling wilderness;
He compassed him about, he cared for him,
He kept him as the apple of his eye.
32:11
As an eagle that stirs up her nest,That flutters over her young,
He spread abroad his wings, he took them,
He bore them on his pinions.
32:12
Yahweh alone did lead him,There was no foreign mighty one with him.
32:13
He made him ride on the high places of the earth,He ate the increase of the field;
He made him to suck honey out of the rock,
Oil out of the flinty rock;
32:14
Butter of the herd, and milk of the flock,With fat of lambs,
Rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats,
With the finest of the wheat;
Of the blood of the grape you drank wine.
32:15
But Yeshurun grew fat, and kicked:You have grown fat, you are grown thick, you are become sleek;
Then he forsook the Mighty One who made him,
Lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.
32:16
They moved him to jealousy with strange mighty ones; With abominations provoked they him to anger.
32:17
They sacrificed to demons, which were no mighty one,To mighty ones that they didn't know,
To new mighty ones that came up of late,
Which your fathers didn't dread.
32:18
Of the Rock that became your father, you are unmindful,Have forgotten the Mighty One who gave you birth.
32:19
Yahweh saw it, and abhorred them,Because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.
32:20
He said, I will hide my face from them,I will see what their end shall be:
For they are a very perverse generation,
Children in whom is no faithfulness.
32:21
They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not a mighty one; They have provoked me to anger with their vanities:
I will move them to jealousy with those who are not a people;
I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.
32:22
For a fire is kindled in my anger,Burns to the lowest She'ol,
Devours the earth with its increase,
Sets on fire the foundations of the mountains.
32:23
I will heap evils on them;I will spend my arrows on them:
32:24
They shall be wasted with hunger, and devoured with burning heatBitter destruction;
The teeth of animals will I send on them,
With the poison of crawling things of the dust.
32:25
Outside shall the sword bereave,In the chambers terror;
It shall destroy both young man and virgin,
The suckling with the man of gray hairs.
32:26
I said, I would scatter them afar,I would make the memory of them to cease from among men;
32:27
Were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy,Lest their adversaries should judge amiss,
Lest they should say, Our hand is exalted,
Yahweh has not done all this.
32:28
For they are a nation void of counsel,There is no understanding in them.
32:29
Oh that they were wise, that they understood this,That they would consider their latter end!
32:30
How should one chase a thousand,Two put ten thousand to flight,
Except their Rock had sold them,
Yahweh had delivered them up?
32:31
For their rock is not as our Rock,Even our enemies themselves being judges.
32:32
For their vine is of the vine of Sedom,Of the fields of `Amorah:
Their grapes are grapes of gall,
Their clusters are bitter:
32:33
Their wine is the poison of serpents,The cruel venom of asps.
32:34
Isn't this laid up in store with me,Sealed up among my treasures?
32:35
Vengeance is mine, and recompense,At the time when their foot shall slide:
For the day of their calamity is at hand,
The things that are to come on them shall make haste.
32:36
For Yahweh will judge his people,Repent himself for his servants;
When he sees that their power is gone,
There is none remaining, shut up or left at large.
32:37
He will say, Where are their mighty ones,The rock in which they took refuge;
32:38
Which ate the fat of their sacrifices,And drank the wine of their drink-offering?
Let them rise up and help you,
Let them be your protection.
32:39
See now that I, even I, am he,There is no mighty one with me:
I kill, and I make alive;
I wound, and I heal;
There is none who can deliver out of my hand.
32:40
For I lift up my hand to Heaven,And say, As I live forever,
32:41
If I whet my glittering sword,My hand takes hold on judgment;
I will render vengeance to my adversaries,
Will recompense those who hate me.
32:42
I will make my arrows drunk with blood,My sword shall devour flesh;
With the blood of the slain and the captives,
From the head of the leaders of the enemy.
32:43
Rejoice, you nations, with his people:For he will avenge the blood of his servants,
Will render vengeance to his adversaries,
Will make expiation for his land, for his people.
32:44
Moshe came and spoke all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he and Yah'shuah the son of Nun. 32:45Moshe made an end of speaking all these words to all Yisra'el; 32:46He said to them, "Set your heart to all the words which I testify to you this day, which you shall command your children to observe to do, even all the words of this law. 32:47For it is no vain thing for you; because it is your life, and through this thing you shall prolong your days in the land, where you go over the Yarden to possess it." 32:48Yahweh spoke to Moshe that same day, saying, 32:49"Get you up into this mountain of `Avarimen, to mount Nevo, which is in the land of Mo'av, that is over against Yericho; and see the land of Kana`an, which I give to the children of Yisra'el for a possession; 32:50and die in the mount where you go up, and be gathered to your people, as Aharon your brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered to his people: 32:51because you trespassed against me in the midst of the children of Yisra'el at the waters of Merivah of Kadesh, in the wilderness of Tzin; because you didn't sanctify me in the midst of the children of Yisra'el. 32:52For you shall see the land before you; but you shall not go there into the land which I give the children of Yisra'el."32: 5 shows that when the children of Yisrael deal corruptly with Yahweh they cease being his children!
32: 8-9 shows that Yahweh set the boundaries of the nations according to the number of children of Yisrael, the people who are his own possession, above all the peoples of the earth! In other words, because of the pre-eminence among the nations that Yahweh gave the children of Yisrael, he determined the boundaries of the nations after having determined the requisite land he was giving to the children of Yisrael!
Also, it is evident that Yahweh knew the exact number the children of Yisrael were to be in the future to have so determined the allotment of the nations based around his allotment to Yisrael! Great is the power of Yahweh, knowing the end of a matter even from its very beginning!
