YISRAEL'S NON-OBSERVANCE OF YAHWEH'S COVENANTS

Results Of Obedience And Disobedience To Yahweh's Covenant

Yah'shuah (Joshua) 7: 10-15

7:10Yahweh said to Yah'shuah, "Get you up; why are you thus fallen on your face? 7:11Yisra'el has sinned; yes, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: yes, they have even taken of the devoted thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also; and they have even put it among their own stuff. 7:12Therefore the children of Yisra'el can't stand before their enemies; they turn their backs before their enemies, because they are become accursed: I will not be with you any more, except you destroy the devoted thing from among you. 7:13Up, sanctify the people, and say, 'Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow: for thus says Yahweh, the Mighty One of Yisra'el, "There is a devoted thing in the midst of you, Yisra'el; you can not stand before your enemies, until you take away the devoted thing from among you. 7:14In the morning therefore you shall be brought near by your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which Yahweh takes shall come near by families; and the family which Yahweh shall take shall come near by households; and the household which Yahweh shall take shall come near man by man. 7:15It shall be, that he who is taken with the devoted thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he has; because he has transgressed the covenant of Yahweh, and because he has done folly in Yisra'el."'"

The blessings Yahweh has promised to Yisrael stand only when they uphold his covenant. But when they break Yahweh's covenant they instead reap curses for themselves.

Yahweh Fulfilled All His Promised Blessings

Yah'shuah 23: 14-16

23:14Behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and you know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing has failed of all the good things which Yahweh your Mighty One spoke concerning you; all have happened to you, not one thing has failed of it. 23:15It shall happen, that as all the good things have come on you of which Yahweh your Mighty One spoke to you, so will Yahweh bring on you all the evil things, until he will have destroyed you from off this good land which Yahweh your Mighty One has given you. 23:16When you disobey the covenant of Yahweh your Mighty One, which he commanded you, and go and serve other mighty ones, and bow down yourselves to them; then will the anger of Yahweh be kindled against you, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land which he has given to you.

All of the blessings that Yahweh promised Yisrael were fulfilled, for they kept Yahweh's covenant during the days of Yah'shuah! Likewise, when Yisrael were to break Yahweh's covenant after the days of Yah'shuah, all the curses that Yahweh promised were to be fulfilled!

Yahweh Fulfilled His Promised Curses For Disobedience

Shofetim (Judges) 2

2:1The angel of Yahweh came up from Gilgal to Bokhim. He said, "I made you to go up out of Mitzrayim, and have brought you to the land which I swore to your fathers; and I said, 'I will never break my covenant with you: 2:2and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.' But you have not listened to my voice: why have you done this? 2:3Therefore I also said, 'I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their mighty ones shall be a snare to you.'" 2:4It happened, when the angel of Yahweh spoke these words to all the children of Yisra'el, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept. 2:5They called the name of that place Bokhim: and they sacrificed there to Yahweh.

2:6Now when Yah'shuah had sent the people away, the children of Yisra'el went every man to his inheritance to possess the land. 2:7The people served Yahweh all the days of Yah'shuah, and all the days of the Zakenim who outlived Yah'shuah, who had seen all the great work of Yahweh that he had worked for Yisra'el. 2:8Yah'shuah the son of Nun, the servant of Yahweh, died, being one hundred ten years old. 2:9They buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnat-Cheres, in the hill- country of Efrayim, on the north of the mountain of Ga`ash. 2:10Also all that generation were gathered to their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, who didn't know Yahweh, nor yet the work which he had worked for Yisra'el.

2:11The children of Yisra'el did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and served the Ba`alim; 2:12and they forsook Yahweh, the Mighty One of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Mitzrayim, and followed other mighty ones, of the mighty ones of the peoples who were round about them, and bowed themselves down to them: and they provoked Yahweh to anger. 2:13They forsook Yahweh, and served Ba`al and the `Ashtarot. 2:14The anger of Yahweh was kindled against Yisra'el, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers who despoiled them; and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies. 2:15Wherever they went out, the hand of Yahweh was against them for evil, as Yahweh had spoken, and as Yahweh had sworn to them: and they were sore distressed.

2:16Yahweh raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who despoiled them. 2:17Yet they didn't listen to their judges; for they played the prostitute after other mighty ones, and bowed themselves down to them: they turned aside quickly out of the way in which their fathers walked, obeying the commandments of Yahweh; but they didn't do so. 2:18When Yahweh raised them up judges, then Yahweh was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented Yahweh because of their groaning by reason of those who oppressed them and vexed them. 2:19But it happened, when the judge was dead, that they turned back, and dealt more corruptly than their fathers, in following other mighty ones to serve them, and to bow down to them; they didn't cease from their doings, nor from their stubborn way.

2:20The anger of Yahweh was kindled against Yisra'el; and he said, "Because this nation has transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and has not listened to my voice; 2:21I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations that Yah'shuah left when he died; 2:22that by them I may prove Yisra'el, whether they will keep the way of Yahweh to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not." 2:23So Yahweh left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Yah'shuah.

The fulfilment of Yahweh's words to Yisrael with respect to their breaking his covenant.

Yahweh's Everlasting Covenant With David

2 Shemuel (Samuel) 23: 5

23:5Most assuredly my house is not so with the Mighty One;

Yet he has made with me an everlasting covenant,

Ordered in all things, and sure:

For it is all my salvation, and all my desire,

Although he doesn't make it grow.

2 Shemuel 7

7:1It happened, when the king lived in his house, and Yahweh had given him rest from all his enemies round about, 7:2that the king said to Natan the prophet, "See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the Mighty One dwells within curtains." 7:3Natan said to the king, "Go, do all that is in your heart; for Yahweh is with you."

7:4It happened the same night, that the word of Yahweh came to Natan, saying, 7:5"Go and tell my servant David, 'Thus says Yahweh, Shall you build me a house for me to dwell in? 7:6For I have not lived in a house since the day that I brought up the children of Yisra'el out of Mitzrayim, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tent. 7:7In all places in which I have walked with all the children of Yisra'el, spoke I a word with any of the tribes of Yisra'el, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people Yisra'el, saying, "Why have you not built me a house of cedar?" 7:8Now therefore thus shall you tell my servant David, "Thus says Yahweh-Tzva'ot, I took you from the sheep pen, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people, over Yisra'el; 7:9and I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make you a great name, like the name of the great ones who are in the earth. 7:10I will appoint a place for my people Yisra'el, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as at the first, 7:11and as from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Yisra'el; and I will cause you to rest from all your enemies. Moreover Yahweh tells you that Yahweh will make you a house. 7:12When your days are fulfilled, and you shall sleep with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who shall proceed out of your bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. 7:13He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 7:14I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men; 7:15but my lovingkindness shall not depart from him, as I took it from Sha'ul, whom I put away before you. 7:16Your house and your kingdom shall be made sure for ever before you: your throne shall be established forever."'" 7:17According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Natan speak to David.

7:18Then David the king went in, and sat before Yahweh; and he said, "Who am I, Sovereign Yahweh, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? 7:19This was yet a small thing in your eyes, Sovereign Yahweh; but you have spoken also of your servant's house for a great while to come; and this too after the manner of men, Sovereign Yahweh! 7:20What can David say more to you? For you know your servant, Sovereign Yahweh. 7:21For your word's sake, and according to your own heart, have you worked all this greatness, to make your servant know it. 7:22Therefore you are great, Yahweh the Mighty One: for there is none like you, neither is there any mighty one besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 7:23What one nation in the earth is like your people, even like Yisra'el, whom the Mighty One went to redeem to himself for a people, and to make him a name, and to do great things for you, and awesome things for your land, before your people, whom you redeemed to you out of Mitzrayim, from the nations and their mighty ones? 7:24You did establish to yourself your people Yisra'el to be a people to you forever; and you, Yahweh, became their Mighty One. 7:25Now, Yahweh the Mighty One, the word that you have spoken concerning your servant, and concerning his house, confirm you it forever, and do as you have spoken. 7:26Let your name be magnified forever, saying, 'Yahweh-Tzva'ot is Mighty One over Yisra'el; and the house of your servant David shall be established before you.' 7:27For you, Yahweh-Tzva'ot, the Mighty One of Yisra'el, have revealed to your servant, saying, 'I will build you a house': therefore has your servant found in his heart to pray this prayer to you. 7:28Now, O Sovereign Yahweh, you are the Mighty One, and your words are truth, and you have promised this good thing to your servant: 7:29now therefore let it please you to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you; for you, Sovereign Yahweh, have spoken it: and with your blessing let the house of your servant be blessed forever."

Yahweh's everlasting covenant with David's house.

Shelomo Punished For Breaking Yahweh's Covenant

1 Melakhim (Kings) 11: 9-13

11:9Yahweh was angry with Shelomo, because his heart was turned away from Yahweh, the Mighty One of Yisra'el, who had appeared to him twice, 11:10and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other mighty ones: but he didn't keep that which Yahweh commanded. 11:11Therefore Yahweh said to Shelomo, "Because this is done of you, and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you, and will give it to your servant. 11:12Notwithstanding in your days I will not do it, for David your father's sake: but I will tear it out of the hand of your son. 11:13However I will not tear away all the kingdom; but I will give one tribe to your son, for David my servant's sake, and for Yerushalayim's sake which I have chosen."

Yahweh begins to punish Shelomo's house because he broke Yahweh's covenant - the ten commandments.

Eliyah Was Zealous For Yahweh's Covenant

1 Melakhim 19: 9-14

19:9He came there to a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of Yahweh came to him, and he said to him, "What do you here, Eliyah?" 19:10He said, "I have been very jealous for Yahweh, the Mighty One-Tzva'ot; for the children of Yisra'el have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and slain your prophets with the sword: and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away." 19:11He said, "Go forth, and stand on the mountain before Yahweh." Behold, Yahweh passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before Yahweh; but Yahweh was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but Yahweh was not in the earthquake: 19:12and after the earthquake a fire; but Yahweh was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 19:13It was so, when Eliyah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. Behold, there came a voice to him, and said, "What do you here, Eliyah?" 19:14He said, "I have been very jealous for Yahweh, the Mighty One-Tzva'ot; for the children of Yisra'el have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and slain your prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away."

Penalties Upon Yisrael For Breaking Yahweh's Covenant

2 Melakhim 17

17:1In the twelfth year of Achaz king of Yahudah began Hoshea the son of Elah to reign in Shomron over Yisra'el, and reigned nine years. 17:2He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, yet not as the kings of Yisra'el who were before him. 17:3Against him came up Shalman'eser king of Ashshur; and Hoshea became his servant, and brought him tribute. 17:4The king of Ashshur found conspiracy in Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So king of Mitzrayim, and offered no tribute to the king of Ashshur, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Ashshur shut him up, and bound him in prison. 17:5Then the king of Ashshur came up throughout all the land, and went up to Shomron, and besieged it three years.

17:6In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Ashshur took Shomron, and carried Yisra'el away to Ashshur, and placed them in Chalach, and on the Chavor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Madai. 17:7It was so, because the children of Yisra'el had sinned against Yahweh their Mighty One, who brought them up out of the land of Mitzrayim from under the hand of Par`oh king of Mitzrayim, and had feared other mighty ones, 17:8and walked in the statutes of the nations, whom Yahweh cast out from before the children of Yisra'el, and of the kings of Yisra'el, which they made. 17:9The children of Yisra'el did secretly things that were not right against Yahweh their Mighty One: and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city; 17:10and they set them up pillars and Asherim on every high hill, and under every green tree; 17:11and there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the nations whom Yahweh carried away before them; and they worked wicked things to provoke Yahweh to anger; 17:12and they served idols, whereof Yahweh had said to them, "You shall not do this thing." 17:13Yet Yahweh testified to Yisra'el, and to Yahudah, by every prophet, and every seer, saying, "Turn you from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets." 17:14Notwithstanding, they would not hear, but hardened their neck, like the neck of their fathers, who didn't believe in Yahweh their Mighty One. 17:15They rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified to them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the nations that were round about them, concerning whom Yahweh had charged those who they should not do like them. 17:16They forsook all the commandments of Yahweh their Mighty One, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshipped all the host of the sky, and served Ba`al. 17:17They caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, to provoke him to anger. 17:18Therefore Yahweh was very angry with Yisra'el, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Yahudah only.

17:19Also Yahudah didn't keep the commandments of Yahweh their Mighty One, but walked in the statutes of Yisra'el which they made. 17:20Yahweh rejected all the seed of Yisra'el, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight. 17:21For he tore Yisra'el from the house of David; and they made Yarov`am the son of Nevat king: and Yarov`am drove Yisra'el from following Yahweh, and made them sin a great sin. 17:22The children of Yisra'el walked in all the sins of Yarov`am which he did; they didn't depart from them; 17:23until Yahweh removed Yisra'el out of his sight, as he spoke by all his servants the prophets. So Yisra'el was carried away out of their own land to Ashshur to this day.

17:24The king of Ashshur brought men from Bavel, and from Kutah, and from Avva, and from Chamat and Sefarvayim, and placed them in the cities of Shomron instead of the children of Yisra'el; and they possessed Shomron, and lived in the cities of it. 17:25So it was, at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they didn't fear Yahweh: therefore Yahweh sent lions among them, which killed some of them. 17:26Therefore they spoke to the king of Ashshur, saying, "The nations which you have carried away, and placed in the cities of Shomron, don't know the law of the Mighty One of the land: therefore he has sent lions among them, and, behold, they kill them, because they don't know the law of the Mighty One of the land." 17:27Then the king of Ashshur commanded, saying, "Carry there one of the Kohanim whom you brought from there; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the law of the Mighty One of the land." 17:28So one of the Kohanim whom they had carried away from Shomron came and lived in Beit-El, and taught them how they should fear Yahweh. 17:29However every nation made mighty ones of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Shomroni had made, every nation in their cities in which they lived. 17:30The men of Bavel made Succot-Benot, and the men of Kut made Nergal, and the men of Chamat made Ashima, 17:31and the `Avvim made Niv'chaz and Tartak; and the Sefarvayim burnt their children in the fire to Adrammelekh and `Anammelekh, the mighty ones of Sefarvayim. 17:32So they feared Yahweh, and made to them from among themselves Kohanim of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places. 17:33They feared Yahweh, and served their own mighty ones, after the manner of the nations from among whom they had been carried away.

17:34To this day they do after the former manner: they don't fear Yahweh, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law or after the commandment which Yahweh commanded the children of Ya`akov, whom he named Yisra'el; 17:35with whom Yahweh had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, "You shall not fear other mighty ones, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them: 17:36but Yahweh, who brought you up out of the land of Mitzrayim with great power and with an outstretched arm, him shall you fear, and to him shall you bow yourselves, and to him shall you sacrifice: 17:37and the statutes and the ordinances, and the law and the commandment, which he wrote for you, you shall observe to do forevermore; and you shall not fear other mighty ones: 17:38and the covenant that I have made with you you shall not forget; neither shall you fear other mighty ones: 17:39but Yahweh your Mighty One shall you fear; and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies." 17:40However they did not listen, but they did after their former manner. 17:41So these nations feared Yahweh, and served their engraved images; their children likewise, and their children's children, as did their fathers, so do they to this day.

17: 26 shows that it is evident that the law of Yahweh should be observed by all peoples dwelling in the land that he gave to the children of Yisrael, irrespective of whether or not they are Yisraelites.

2 Melakhim 18: 9-12

18:9It happened in the fourth year of king Chizkiyahu, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Yisra'el, that Shalman'eser king of Ashshur came up against Shomron, and besieged it. 18:10At the end of three years they took it: in the sixth year of Chizkiyahu, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Yisra'el, Shomron was taken. 18:11The king of Ashshur carried Yisra'el away to Ashshur, and put them in Chalach, and on the Chavor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Madai, 18:12because they didn't obey the voice of Yahweh their Mighty One, but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moshe the servant of Yahweh commanded, and would not hear it, nor do it.

The consequences upon Yisrael for breaking Yahweh's covenant.

Punishment On Yahudah For Forsaking Yahweh's Covenant

2 Melakhim 23: 21-28

23:21The king commanded all the people, saying, "Keep the Pesach to Yahweh your Mighty One, as it is written in this book of the covenant." 23:22Surely there was not kept such a Pesach from the days of the judges who judged Yisra'el, nor in all the days of the kings of Yisra'el, nor of the kings of Yahudah; 23:23but in the eighteenth year of king Yoshiyahu was this Pesach kept to Yahweh in Yerushalayim. 23:24Moreover those who had familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the terafim, and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Yahudah and in Yerushalayim, did Yoshiyahu put away, that he might confirm the words of the law which were written in the book that Chilkiyah the Kohen found in the house of Yahweh. 23:25Like him was there no king before him, who turned to Yahweh with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moshe; neither after him arose there any like him. 23:26Notwithstanding, Yahweh didn't turn from the fierceness of his great wrath, wherewith his anger was kindled against Yahudah, because of all the provocation wherewith Menashshe had provoked him. 23:27Yahweh said, "I will remove Yahudah also out of my sight, as I have removed Yisra'el, and I will cast off this city which I have chosen, even Yerushalayim, and the house of which I said, 'My name shall be there.'" 23:28Now the rest of the acts of Yoshiyahu, and all that he did, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yahudah?

Yahweh undertook to punish Yahudah, even as he punished Yisrael, for forsaking his covenant.
