YAHWEH'S COVENANTS IN THE PSALMS
Yahweh's Relationship With Those Who Keep His Covenant
Psalm 25: 10, 14
25:10All
the paths of Yahweh are lovingkindness and truth
To such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.
25:14The
friendship of Yahweh is with those who fear him.
He will show them his covenant.
The Wicked Have No Right To Utter Yahweh's Covenant
Psalm 50: 16-22
50:16But
to the wicked the Mighty One says,
"What right do you have to declare my statutes,
That you have taken my covenant on your lips,
50:17Seeing you hate instruction,
And throw my words behind you?
50:18When
you saw a thief, you consented with him,
And have participated with adulterers.
50:19"You
give your mouth to evil.
Your tongue harnesses deceit.
50:20You
sit and speak against your brother.
You slander your own mother's son.
50:21You
have done these things, and I kept silence.
You thought that the "I AM" was just like you.
I will rebuke you, and accuse you in front of your eyes.
50:22"Now
consider this, you who forget the Mighty One,
Lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.
The wicked have no right to declare Yahweh's statutes or to take his covenant on their lips. Implying that Yahweh's covenant should be taken on the lips of only those who do righteousness.
Psalm 89: 1-52
89:1I
will sing of the lovingkindness of Yahweh forever.
With my mouth, I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.
89:2I
indeed declare, "Love stands firm forever.
You established the heavens.
Your faithfulness is in them."
89:3"I
have made a covenant with my chosen one,
I have sworn to David, my servant,
89:4'I
will establish your seed forever,
And build up your throne to all generations.'"
Selah.
89:5The
heavens will praise your wonders, Yahweh;
Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones.
89:6For
who in the skies can be compared to Yahweh?
Who among the sons of the heavenly beings is like Yahweh,
89:7A
very awesome Mighty One in the council of the holy ones,
To be feared above all those who are around him?
89:8Yahweh,
Mighty One-Tzva'ot, who is a mighty one, like you?
Yah, your faithfulness is around you.
89:9You
rule the pride of the sea.
When its waves rise up, you calm them.
89:10You
have broken Rachav in pieces, like one of the slain.
You have scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.
89:11The
heavens are yours, the earth also is yours;
The world and its fullness. You have founded them.
89:12The
north and the south, you have created them.
Tavor and Chermon rejoice in your name.
89:13You
have a mighty arm.
Your hand is strong, and your right hand is exalted.
89:14Righteousness
and justice are the foundation of your throne.
Lovingkindness and truth go before your face.
89:15Blessed
are the people who learn to acclaim you.
They walk in the light of your presence, Yahweh.
89:16In
your name do they rejoice all day.
In your righteousness, they are exalted.
89:17For
you are the glory of their strength.
In your favor, our horn will be exalted.
89:18For
our shield belongs to Yahweh;
Our king to the Holy One of Yisra'el.
89:19Then
you spoke in vision to your holy ones,
And said, "I have bestowed strength on the warrior.
I have exalted a young man from the people.
89:20I
have found David, my servant.
I have anointed him with my holy oil,
89:21With
whom my hand shall be established.
My arm will also strengthen him.
89:22No
enemy will tax him.
No wicked man will oppress him.
89:23I
will beat down his adversaries before him,
And strike those who hate him.
89:24But
my faithfulness and my lovingkindness will be with him.
In my name, his horn will be exalted.
89:25I
will set his hand also on the sea,
And his right hand on the rivers.
89:26He
will call to me, 'You are my Father,
My Mighty One, and the rock of my salvation!'
89:27I
will also appoint him my firstborn,
The highest of the kings of the earth.
89:28I
will keep my lovingkindness for him forevermore.
My covenant will stand firm with him.
89:29I
will also make his seed endure forever,
And his throne as the days of Heaven.
89:30If
his children forsake my law,
And don't walk in my ordinances;
89:31If
they break my statutes,
And don't keep my commandments;
89:32Then
I will punish their sin with the rod,
And their iniquity with stripes.
89:33But
I will not completely take my lovingkindness from him,
Nor allow my faithfulness to fail.
89:34I
will not break my covenant,
Nor alter what my lips have uttered.
89:35Once
have I sworn by my holiness,
I will not lie to David.
89:36His
seed will endure forever,
His throne like the sun before me.
89:37It
will be established forever like the moon,
The faithful witness in the sky."
Selah.
89:38But
you have rejected and spurned.
You have been angry with your anointed.
89:39You
have renounced the covenant of your servant.
You have defiled his crown in the dust.
89:40You
have broken down all his hedges.
You have brought his strongholds to ruin.
89:41All who pass by the way rob him.
He has become a reproach to his neighbors.
89:42You
have exalted the right hand of his adversaries.
You have made all of his enemies rejoice.
89:43Yes,
you turn back the edge of his sword,
And haven't supported him in battle.
89:44You
have ended his splendor,
And thrown his throne down to the ground.
89:45You
have shortened the days of his youth.
You have covered him with shame.
Selah.
89:46How
long, Yahweh?
Will you hide yourself forever?
Will your wrath burn like fire?
89:47Remember
how short my time is!
For what vanity have you created all the children of men!
89:48What
man is he who shall live and not see death,
Who shall deliver his soul from the power of She'ol?
Selah.
89:49Sovereign,
where are your former lovingkindnesses,
Which you swore to David in your faithfulness?
89:50Remember,
Sovereign, the reproach of your servants,
How I bear in my heart the taunts of all the mighty peoples,
89:51Wherewith
your enemies have mocked, Yahweh,
Wherewith they have mocked the footsteps of your anointed one.
89:52Blessed be Yahweh forevermore.
Amen, and Amen.
Yahweh's Dealings With Those Who Keep His Covenant
Psalm 103: 17-18
103:17But
Yahweh's lovingkindness is from everlasting to everlasting with those who fear
him,
His righteousness to children's children;
103:18To
those who keep his covenant,
To those who remember to obey his precepts.
Commencement Of Fulfilment Of Yahweh's Everlasting Covenant To Avraham
Psalm 105: 1-45
105:1Give
thanks to Yahweh! Call on his name!
Make his doings known among the peoples.
105:2Sing
to him, sing praises to him!
Tell of all his marvelous works.
105:3Glory
in his holy name.
Let the heart of them rejoice who seek Yahweh.
105:4Seek
Yahweh and his strength.
Seek his face forever more.
105:5Remember
his marvelous works that he has done;
His wonders, and the judgments of his mouth,
105:6You
seed of Avraham, his servant,
You children of Ya`akov, his chosen ones.
105:7He
is Yahweh, our Mighty One.
His judgments are in all the earth.
105:8He
has remembered his covenant forever,
The word which he commanded to a thousand generations,
105:9The
covenant which he made with Avraham,
His oath to Yitzchak,
105:10And
confirmed the same to Ya`akov for a statute;
To Yisra'el for an everlasting covenant,
105:11Saying,
"To you I will give the land of Kana`an,
The lot of your inheritance;"
105:12When
they were but a few men in number,
Yes, very few, and sojourners in it.
105:13They
went about from nation to nation,
From one kingdom to another people.
105:14He
allowed no one to do them wrong.
Yes, he reproved kings for their sakes,
105:15"Don't
touch my anointed ones.
Do my prophets no harm."
105:16He
called for a famine on the land.
He destroyed the food supplies.
105:17He
sent a man before them.
Yosef was sold for a slave.
105:18They
bruised his feet with shackles.
His neck was locked in irons,
105:19Until
the time that his word happened,
And Yahweh's word proved him true.
105:20The
king sent and freed him;
Even the ruler of peoples, and let him go free.
105:21He
made him master of his house,
And ruler of all of his possessions;
105:22To
discipline his princes at his pleasure,
And to teach his Zakenim wisdom.
105:23Yisra'el
also came into Mitzrayim.
Ya`akov sojourned in the land of Cham.
105:24He
increased his people greatly,
And made them stronger than their adversaries.
105:25He
turned their heart to hate his people,
To conspire against his servants.
105:26He
sent Moshe, his servant,
And Aharon, whom he had chosen.
105:27They
performed miracles among them,
And wonders in the land of Cham.
105:28He
sent darkness, and made it dark.
They didn't rebel against his words.
105:29He
turned their waters into blood,
And killed their fish.
105:30Their
land swarmed with frogs,
Even in the chambers of their kings.
105:31He
spoke, and swarms of flies came,
And lice in all their borders.
105:32He
gave them hail for rain,
With lightning in their land.
105:33He
struck their vines and also their fig trees,
And shattered the trees of their country.
105:34He
spoke, and the locusts came,
And the grasshoppers, without number,
105:35Ate
up every plant in their land;
Ate up the fruit of their ground.
105:36He
struck also all the firstborn in their land,
The chief of all their strength.
105:37He
brought them forth with silver and gold.
There was not one feeble person among his tribes.
105:38Mitzrayim
was glad when they departed,
For the fear of them had fallen on them.
105:39He
spread a cloud for a covering,
Fire to give light in the night.
105:40They
asked, and he brought quails,
And satisfied them with the bread of the sky.
105:41He
opened the rock, and waters gushed out.
They ran as a river in the dry places.
105:42For
he remembered his holy word,
And Avraham, his servant.
105:43He
brought forth his people with joy,
His chosen with singing.
105:44He
gave them the lands of the nations.
They took the labor of the peoples in possession,
105:45That
they might keep his statutes,
And observe his laws.
Praise Yah!
The commencement of the fulfilment of Yahweh's everlasting covenant to Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov.
Psalm 111: 1-10
111:1Praise
Yah!
I will give thanks to Yahweh with my whole heart,
In the council of the upright, and in the congregation.
111:2The
works of Yahweh are great,
Pondered by all those who delight in them.
111:3His
work is honor and majesty.
His righteousness endures forever.
111:4He
has caused his wonderful works to be remembered.
Yahweh is gracious and merciful.
111:5He
has given food to those who fear him.
He always remembers his covenant.
111:6He
has shown his people the power of his works,
In giving them the heritage of the nations.
111:7The
works of his hands are truth and justice.
All his precepts are sure.
111:8They
are established forever and ever.
They are done in truth and uprightness.
111:9He
has sent redemption to his people.
He has ordained his covenant forever.
His name is holy and awesome!
111:10The
fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom.
All those who do his work have a good understanding.
His praise endures forever!
Yahweh's Everlasting Covenant With David And Tzion
Psalm 132: 1-18
132:1Yahweh, remember David and all his affliction,
132:2How
he swore to Yahweh,
And vowed to the Mighty One of Ya`akov:
132:3"Surely
I will not come into the structure of my house,
Nor go up into my bed;
132:4I
will not give sleep to my eyes,
Or slumber to my eyelids;
132:5Until
I find out a place for Yahweh,
A dwelling for the Mighty One of Ya`akov."
132:6Behold,
we heard of it in Efratah.
We found it in the field of Jaar:
132:7"We
will go into his dwelling place.
We will worship at his footstool.
132:8Arise,
Yahweh, into your resting place;
You, and the ark of your strength.
132:9Let
your Kohen be clothed with righteousness.
Let your holy ones shout for joy!"
132:10For
your servant David's sake,
Don't turn away the face of your anointed one.
132:11Yahweh
has sworn to David in truth.
He will not turn from it:
"I will set the fruit of your body on your throne.
132:12If
your children will keep my covenant,
My testimony that I will teach them,
Their children also will sit on your throne forevermore."
132:13For
Yahweh has chosen Tzion.
He has desired it for his habitation.
132:14"This
is my resting place forever.
Here I will live, for I have desired it.
132:15I
will abundantly bless her provision.
I will satisfy her poor with bread.
132:16Her
Kohanim I will also clothe with yeshu`ah.
Her holy ones will shout aloud for joy.
132:17There
I will make the horn of David to bud.
I have ordained a lamp for my anointed.
132:18I will clothe his
enemies with shame,
But on himself, his crown will be resplendant."
